About this role

About the role

We are looking for a Junior UI Programmer to join the Europa Universalis V team and help build and maintain the game's user interface. The role spans both C++ programming and proprietary GUI scripting: The person hired will implement and fix UI features across panels and tooltip systems, adapt existing UI patterns for new gameplay needs, and work closely with more senior programmers to ensure consistency across the product. Comfort navigating an established C++ codebase is essential; familiarity with GUI frameworks or game UI pipelines is a strong plus. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for someone ready to ship real features in a commercial title from day one.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Implement and fix UI features across panels and tooltip systems, from scripting layout to wiring up game data

  • Use our in-house GUI scripting language to build interfaces that reflect design intent and connect to the game API

  • Adapt and extend existing UI patterns for new gameplay systems and features

  • Debug and maintain UI to ensure a stable, readable product

  • Collaborate closely with UX designers, artists, and gameplay programmers throughout each feature cycle

  • Participate in code reviews, task breakdowns, and retrospectives

  • Contribute to shared UI patterns and help keep the codebase consistent

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Experience or education in C++ programming

  • Ability to learn and become productive in new scripting or domain-specific languages quickly

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Genuine interest in UI and game design, and enjoyment of close collaboration with designers and artists

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in game development or with a game engine

  • Familiarity with tooltip or HUD systems in games

  • Knowledge of UI design patterns and best practices

  • Experience with Europa Universalis or other Paradox games as a player or modder

Who You Are

You care about player experience and find satisfaction in translating complex systems into clear, approachable interfaces. You are curious, methodical, and comfortable asking questions when the scope is unclear. You thrive in a small, collaborative team where designers, artists, and engineers work closely together and you are eager to grow your skills on a shipped commercial title.

The Team

You will be part of the UI team at Paradox Tinto on Europa Universalis V, reporting to the UI Lead. Your closest day-to-day collaborators will be senior UI programmers and UX designers, with regular interaction with gameplay programmers, content designers, and QA.

Type of Employment: Full time, permanent (6 months probation)
Location: Sitges, Barcelona, Spain (fully onsite with flexibility)
