Join ALS – Stafford, QLD as a Laboratory Assistant

The role

ALS Oil & Lubricants in Stafford provides testing analysis to ensure optimal fluid health to our client’s equipment.

We’re looking for a Full-time Laboratory Assistant to support Oil & Lubricants team by assisting with the preparation, handling, testing, and processing of samples associated with wear, friction, lubrication, and material performance evaluations. The role ensures laboratory activities are completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with approved methods, quality standards, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, identify, label, log, and store laboratory samples in accordance with established procedures.

  • Prepare samples, lubricants, fluids, and test specimens for tribological and material performance testing.

  • Assist Laboratory Technicians and Scientists in conducting routine wear, friction, lubrication, and material testing activities.

  • Operate laboratory equipment safely and accurately in accordance with approved methods and training requirements.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, testing apparatus and work area ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and compliance with quality standards.

  • Accurately measure, record, and maintain laboratory data and documentation ensuring full traceability of samples and test results.

  • Monitor laboratory consumables and support stock control, reporting shortages and assisting with reagent and test material preparation.

  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and quality management requirements while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a laboratory, technical, manufacturing, engineering, or testing environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate results and records.

  • Ability to follow written procedures, test methods, and work instructions consistently.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe workplace health and safety,

    including the safe handling of laboratory samples, chemicals, oils, and equipment.

Desirable

  • Certificate, diploma, or relevant study in science, chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience with lubricants, oils, metals, polymers, coatings, or materials testing.

  • Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, such as ISO/IEC 17025.

  • Experience operating balances, ovens, microscopes, measuring equipment, or mechanical test apparatus.

  • Understanding of basic tribology concepts, including friction, wear, lubrication, and surface interaction.
