Position Summary
The Lead Consultant, Tax Technology serves as a technical and delivery leader for tax technology implementations, providing end-to-end ownership of complex client engagements. This role is responsible for analyzing client tax environments, designing scalable tax automation solutions, and leading full lifecycle implementations across tax engines and integrated business systems. The Lead Consultant acts as a trusted advisor to clients, manages project execution, mentors team members, and supports the growth of DMA’s Tax Technology practice through solution excellence and opportunity identification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of tax technology solutions, including tax engines, compliance tools, and integrated automation platforms.
Analyze client tax landscapes, gather detailed requirements, architect solution designs, and oversee implementation execution.
Own all phases of the tax technology implementation lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, ERP and tax engine configuration, testing, knowledge transfer, and go live support.
Review ERP and tax engine configurations to identify gaps and recommend improvements based on industry best practices.
Configure and integrate tax technology solutions with ERP, billing, POS, and eCommerce systems, including non‑standard integrations.
Serve as the primary delivery and technical point of contact for assigned client engagements, managing expectations and outcomes.
Lead project management activities, including facilitating status meetings, maintaining project plans, documenting decisions, and managing timelines.
Produce and review formal client documentation, including solution designs, configuration documentation, and training materials.
Maintain and enhance existing client tax technology environments following implementation.
Apply a deep understanding of accounting, pricing, and freight configuration concepts to support accurate tax determination.
Manage scope, change orders, and delivery risks in alignment with Statements of Work.
Identify additional client needs, potential risks, and opportunities for expanded services or follow on engagements.
Mentor Senior Consultants and Consultants by providing technical guidance, delivery oversight, and professional development support.
Provide best practice guidance and informal coaching to project team members.
Support internal initiatives, solution development efforts, and practice improvement activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Accounting, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related field required.
4–7 years of experience delivering tax technology implementations with tax engines and ERP integrations.
Strong expertise in tax application configuration within ERP environments.
Demonstrated ability to design and execute non‑standard integrations and complex data mappings.
Solid understanding of accounting processes, pricing structures, SUT/VAT/GST and freight configuration impacts on tax.
Proven ability to work independently, manage client engagements, and lead project execution.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project documentation tools.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
Strong organizational, time‑management, and client‑relationship skills.
Work Environment & Physical Restrictions
Work Schedule: Regular, 40 hours/week
Travel: Up to 50%
