About the Role

As our Lead IT Infrastructure Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining Waythrough's IT infrastructure, ensuring our systems are secure, resilient and fit for the future. Working closely with the Director of IT Operations and colleagues across the IT & Digital team, you'll lead the design, implementation and continual improvement of our infrastructure, with a strong focus on Microsoft cloud technologies, cyber security and service reliability.

You'll provide technical leadership on major infrastructure projects, act as the senior escalation point for complex technical issues, and help drive innovation by introducing modern technologies that improve services for colleagues and the people we support. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the organisation's technology strategy while ensuring our IT services remain secure, efficient and user-focused.

Key Duties

  • Lead the design, development and continual improvement of Waythrough's IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure IT services remain secure, reliable, resilient and fit for purpose across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Provide technical leadership for infrastructure projects, including planning, architecture, risk management and successful delivery.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex third-line infrastructure issues.
  • Manage and optimise Microsoft cloud services, including Microsoft 365 and Azure.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance and ensure services meet business and user needs.
  • Lead cyber security initiatives, supporting compliance, risk management and security best practice.
  • Drive infrastructure modernisation by reducing legacy systems and implementing cloud-first solutions where appropriate.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational processes.
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend innovative, cost-effective improvements that enhance IT services.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers and stakeholders to deliver excellent IT services.

About You

We're looking for an experienced infrastructure professional with a passion for delivering secure, modern and high-performing IT services. You'll be a confident technical leader who enjoys solving complex problems, leading change and supporting others with your expertise.

You'll bring:

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft 365, Azure and Active Directory.
  • Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, threats and mitigation strategies.
  • Significant experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across cloud and on-premise technologies.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure projects and embedding new technologies into business-as-usual operations.
  • The ability to manage risk, prioritise competing demands and work across multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • A relevant IT qualification (or equivalent experience); project management experience or qualifications would be an advantage.
