Position Summary

MSU Denver invites applications for a full time lecturer position in the Fire and Emergency Response Administration program. This is a 9 month contracted faculty position with the potential for summer teaching and contract renewal based upon program need and budget availability. This faculty role will also serve as the Coordinator of the Fire and Emergency Response Administration Program. As such, the faculty member will receive adequate release time needed to conduct these administrative duties, to be assessed each academic year.

The coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic activities aimed at ensuring long-term program viability in partnership with department and college leadership. This includes maintenance and expansion of strategic partnerships, design and management of program curriculum, development of student success initiatives and program marketing and communications. This is an in person position reporting to the Department Chair of the Human Services and Counseling Department. This position is expected to adhere to the teaching expectations delineated in the department and college guidelines as well as the MSU Denver Faculty Employment Handbook.

While the preferred start date is January 1, 2027, the University is prepared to negotiate a later start date of fall 2027 if needed.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Student Support

  • Teach at least two (6 credits) classes in the FERA program in each of the Fall and Spring semesters. This teaching position specifically requires faculty advising related to the FERA program including by not limited to the following:
  • Provide weekly on campus office hours.
  • Supervise independent study courses.
  • Enhance student success by implementing recruitment strategies, designing retention initiatives, providing career and academic advising, and facilitating internship and practicum opportunities.
  • Process FERA program certificates for incoming students.
  • In collaboration with departmental faculty, design, evaluate, and enhance curriculum offerings to meet university accreditation, national educational requirements, and industry standards.

Service

This position will provide service to the department to fully participate in department governance. This includes:

  • Attendance of all full-time faculty and department meetings
  • Assessment Committee membership
  • Curriculum Committee membership
  • Other committees as assigned by department chair

Program Coordination

  • Process FERA program certificates for incoming students.
  • In collaboration with CHHS Advising Services and university support, the coordinator enhances program visibility and opportunities for students.
  • In partnership with the departmental faculty and IPE committee the coordinator will identify opportunities for interprofessional education and support faculty in ensuring the program meets all accreditation standards and institutional policies, maintaining alignment with FESHE guidelines.
  • Enhance community engagement by cultivating strategic partnerships within MSU, with external fire departments/emergency services, high schools, and community colleges.
  • Coordinate training exercises, nurture advisory board relationships, and secure valuable experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • In partnership with CHHS Dean’s office communication strategies and university the coordinator will develop and execute strategies to promote the FERA Program, including website and email communications, marketing materials and events.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fire and emergency services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, or a related field
  • Certifications in the field of fire services (e.g., Executive Fire Officer, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Fire Marshal, Fire Officer, Emergency Manager)
  • Demonstrated understanding of FESHE standards, fire service operations, and current trends in fire and emergency management

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this is $55,000 - $65,000 at Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, discipline, specialty, and training.
