Job Responsibilities:

Objective:

Support product manufacturing by assisting with direction and coordinating the maintenance activities of all departments at MPT Sterling Heights.

Scope

All aspects and functions related to maintenance of equipment and facilities to comply with MPTSH standards, MIOSHA regulations and ISO14001 and that of all interested parties to minimize and remove risk.

Responsibilities, Duties and Authority: (These duties cover only the more significant responsibilities, they are not meant to be all inclusive.  Other duties may be given by the supervisor in addition to, or instead of, those listed here.)

  • Assist with activities and supervision of the Maintenance Department.
  • Assist with managing daily activities of the Maintenance personnel by ensuring there is continuous improvement in all functions through training, mentoring, coaching and process improvements.
  • Manages the safety, quality, predictive and preventive maintenance of the machines and equipment.
  • Assists with managing the scheduling, materials and labor required for machine maintenance troubleshooting and repairs to satisfy production schedules.
  • Ensures there is compliance to an effective PM program.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings; Mafact, Fast Response, etc.
  • Assist with driving the cleanliness and orderliness of the Maintenance areas.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including TS16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
  • Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment), Confined Space, Hot Work, etc. 
  • Reports unsafe conditions to Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lead hourly employees in the Maintenance Department.  Assist with the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, training, mentoring and coaching, planning, assigning and directing work, assisting with appraising performance, rewarding employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or GED.  Five years minimum experience in area of CNC/Press machine maintenance and related machinery.  Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical.  Knowledge of MIG and ARC welding and use of cutting torches.  Ability to read hydraulic and lube schematics.  Ability to work with minimum supervision.  Able to work additional hours as required.  Ability to work with others in a team environment that is fast paced.  Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations pertaining to job.  Own tools needed for performance of maintenance functions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Ability to obtain Forklift, Manlift and Crane Licenses.  Previous experience required

Additional Skills:

Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, governmental regulations and procedure manuals.  Ability to document forms as required by position.  Ability to speak effectively with employees and customers.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MicroSoft Office, AS400 and ability to use bar code labeling system.

Reasoning Skills:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch, twist and stretch and stand for prolonged periods of time.  The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds and climb stairs.  The employee must regularly stand and walk, talk and listen and use a computer.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.  The employee must have the ability to work indoors and outdoors, at heights up to 40 feet and in confined spaces.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
