About this role

[What the role is]

The candidate will be responsible in planning and implementing effective media relations and online media strategies, including promoting Singapore Food Agency (SFA)’s policies and programmes, and profiling SFA. The candidate should have a keen interest in current affairs and developments/trends relating to online media.

The candidate will be involved in extensive writing work, including crafting media replies, press releases and writing for online platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram).

[What you will be working on]

Primary responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop communication strategies to announce major events, new initiatives, policy changes at SFA.
  • Coordinate and organise press conferences, briefings, visits and other media functions.
  • Produce interesting story ideas to pitch to the media to increase SFA’s profile.
  • Coordinate prompt replies to queries from local and international media.
  • Maintain good relationship with media representatives and organise networking sessions like media meetings and lunches.
  • Be at the forefront of online media technologies and identify appropriate online media platforms that are effective in increasing awareness of SFA’s key messages and policies and raise SFA’s profile.
  • Develop and execute content and other engagement tactics on identified online media platforms.
  • Monitor and strategise responses on SFA’s online media platforms, as well as online media initiatives of related agencies and organisations/groups.
  • Track online conversations related to SFA and propose appropriate response strategies.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Organise media training for management and staff to improve their corporate communications and media relations skills.
  • Assist with crisis communications.
  • Monitor and provide analysis of media coverage (both online and offline news).

[What we are looking for]

  • Degree in media, communications, new media or related disciplines
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience, especially in media relations including pitching stories to media, preparing media materials, planning and organising media events such as press conferences and writing speeches. Prior experience in handling online communication platforms is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong command of a Mother Tongue Language is preferred as monitoring of news reports in these mediums would be required.
  • Sound knowledge of online communication platforms and trends.
  • Good knowledge in software functionality, web-editing applications, image- and video-editing applications, HTML and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical skills, resourceful and results oriented.
  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills.
