About this role

As a Markets Investigator, you'll play a critical role in protecting market integrity by combining investigative analysis with AI and data science to support Nasdaq's Investigations and Enforcement program.

You'll thrive in this position if you're analytically rigorous, intellectually curious, and passionate about applying cutting-edge technology to meaningful, real-world problems in a high-impact regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate potential market manipulation and trading misconduct by applying advanced data analysis and AI-powered tools to complex, multi-source datasets.

  • Design and build AI-powered solutions — including large language model applications, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, and agentic workflows — to make investigations faster and more effective.

  • Partner with attorneys, surveillance analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders to support active cases and deliver clear, well-reasoned investigative findings.

  • Collaborate with external regulators and industry bodies to share insights, align on referrals, and contribute to broader market integrity efforts.

  • Manage multiple concurrent matters with precision, maintaining organized and well-documented data in support of ongoing enforcement work.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3+ years of professional experience in data science or AI engineering.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and apply analytics, machine learning techniques, and data visualizations to solve complex, ambiguous problems.

  • Experience or genuine interest in equities or options markets and the regulatory landscape governing them.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.

  • Hands-on experience building with large language models, generative AI, or agentic systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based AI and machine learning services and modern data engineering frameworks.

This position will be located in Washington D.C., New York City, or Philadelphia and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
