The Broad Markets Fixed Income team unites the expertise of single-sector research and trading teams across the Morgan Stanley Investment Management fixed income platform to identify what they believe are the best opportunities in fixed income. The team develops both benchmark awareness and more flexible strategies by relying on the experience and expertise of its global professionals to establish top-down views and themes combined with bottom-up input for security selection. ESG is also a key consideration in the team’s investment process, since they believe there is a correlation between ESG best practice and bond performance.
The Vice President of Portfolio Management will be a key member of the Global Multi-Sector Investment Team, directly supporting the portfolio management team while contributing broadly to the team’s fixed income investment process. This individual will help ensure global multi-sector portfolios reflect the investment team’s views and are managed to pursue strong risk-adjusted returns, while meeting client objectives and investment guidelines. We are seeking a naturally curious individual who will develop a deep understanding of the differing views across the fixed income sector teams; spanning macro, credit and securitized, providing recommendations for investment decisions based on those views and ensuring those views are appropriately implemented in our global multi-sector portfolios.
Role Description
- Day-to-day management of global multi-sector portfolios from managing daily flows, periodic rebalancing, trade implementations, model construction for potential mandates and in-depth portfolio reviews, to generate strong risk-adjusted returns.
- Translate fixed income perspectives from macro, credit, and securitized sector teams into actionable portfolio positioning and investment recommendations.
- Construct and implement portfolios utilizing sector allocation, security selection, duration positioning, and relative value opportunities across fixed income markets.
- Evaluate investment opportunities across fixed income sectors, incorporating both top-down and bottom-up analysis.
- Manage day-to-day portfolio activity, including cash flows, rebalancing, trade implementation, mandate onboarding, and model portfolio construction.
- Conduct portfolio reviews and performance analyses, identifying key drivers of returns, risk exposures, and positioning opportunities.
- Monitor market, sector, macroeconomic, and issuer-specific developments and assess potential impacts on portfolio strategy and positioning.��
- Collaborate closely with portfolio managers, research analysts, and traders to facilitate efficient execution of investment ideas and optimize portfolio outcomes.
- Contribute to investment committee discussions, portfolio reviews, and broader fixed income strategy and asset allocation decisions.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4-8 years of buy side fixed income experience, across a broad range of sectors including; Developed and Emerging Markets, Investment Grade and High Yield Credit, Securitized and derivatives.
- Fixed Income portfolio management experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with portfolio analytics systems (Aladdin) required.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with attention to detail and under time pressure.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex investment ideas and strategies to both internal peers and external clients.
- Strong collaboration skills – enjoy being an individual contributor within a collegial team and embrace the benefits of overlapping lines of idea generation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher and excellent academic credentials.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $125,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term
incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
