As a Network and Security Operations Engineer, you will manage, secure, and optimize our hybrid network and cloud operations supporting business-critical infrastructure for Federal Government clients in Canberra. In this role, you will take hands-on ownership of operational and security tasks, proactively mitigate risks, resolve complex incidents within SLA timeframes, and ensure high service availability and reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing Level 2 support, including the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and continuous monitoring of enterprise network and security hardware and software.

  • Maintaining high uptime for business-critical services by systematically resolving incidents within defined SLA boundaries and performing smooth escalations.

  • Proactively applying security patches and carrying out routine system upgrades to harden the environment and prevent security breaches.

  • Evaluating security infrastructure, identifying potential risks, and providing actionable remediation recommendations to clients to address security gaps.

  • Collaborating across end-users, partners, and stakeholders to resolve security and network issues efficiently while minimizing operational downtime.

  • Authoring and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, including operational policies, support guides, and procedural runbooks.

  • Participating in an on-call roster, including scheduled shifts and occasional weekend availability, to guarantee continuous operational integrity.

What we’re looking for...

You enjoy solving tough technical problems, keeping network ecosystems secure, and keeping business-critical services running smoothly. You are a proactive engineer with deep hands-on expertise across routing, switching, security appliances, and enterprise network hardening.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience in Network and Security operations or support.

  • Hands-on technical experience with networking protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, IPSec) and concepts (Routing, VPNs, VLANs, NAT, and Software-Defined Access/SDA).

  • Practical expertise with core security technologies, including Firewalls, Proxy/CASB, IDS/IPS, Load Balancing, Remote Access, Antivirus, and DLP solutions.

  • Active AGSVA NV1 Security clearance or above.

Even better if you have:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.

  • Current industry-recognized networking and security certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or JNCIS).

  • Active ITIL certification or practical experience operating within an ITIL-aligned service management environment.

  • Working knowledge of enterprise cloud platforms, specifically AWS and Azure.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of managing stakeholder expectations and explaining complex technical issues.

  • A collaborative, proactive mindset with a drive to mentor junior engineers and excel in dynamic, high-pressure environments.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
