Hourly base pay rate is $20.00 - $30.00/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

Our New Car Inspector conducts quality assurance/transportation vehicle inspection activities at designated locations. Performs uniform, consistent inspections on newly manufactured vehicles. Maintains and adheres to company standards for all inspections, using handheld scanning device, writing implement, and other required equipment and supplies. Ensures timely transmission of inspection results daily.

This position interacts with multiple levels of the MMI organization. The role requires a detailed oriented individual that thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys multi-tasking

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs new vehicle inspections from various car manufacturers for minor/ major impact damages, vandalism, factory defects, restraint failure damages, accidents, weather related damages and damages incurred during the transportation process.
  • Document and code damages as they are found and provide damage verification codes for trucking companies prior to the vehicles being delivered to the car dealerships.
  • Able to complete inspections in demanding outdoor environments and fast paced, multi-organization facilities.
  • Responsible for quality of inspections, consistency of standards, performance of data transmission, and timeliness of inspections.
  • Ability to interpret and make analytical inspection decisions based on a defined set of guidelines applied to new vehicles. Inspections may occur on the grounds, or on-board rail cars.
  • Damage Reports
  • Documents and records vehicle damages, utilizing a handheld computer and digital camera. Ability to identify physical auto damage; assist in conducting root-cause analysis of transportation related damage. Renders routine oral and written reports of inspection results as required. All files are to be transmitted upon completion of the inspection. Perform other related duties as requested, including but not limited to locating vehicles and boarding rail cars and ships.
  • Regular and consistent attendance and availability.
  • Special Projects and other duties may be assigned.

Required Experience & Specialist Knowledge and Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years’ experience in a related field.  The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience; or 7 years’ experience in related field.
  • Previous vehicle inspection experience and automotive knowledge is required, body and mechanical.
  • 2-3 years of any automotive-related experience is strongly preferred.   
  • 1 year of service with Manheim Inspections recommended. 
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
  • Travel 100% - Reliable transportation required.  Reimbursement program dependent on number of miles drive.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong technical aptitude.
  • Must be detail orientated.
  • Experience in navigating handheld and other documentation devices preferred.
  • Motivated to work independently with remote supervision.
  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction is required.
  • Body, paint, and mechanical repair knowledge helpful. 
  • Familiarity with unibody and full-frame helpful.
  • Ability to lift and hold at least 30 lbs. at waist level for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to crouch, bend, and kneel to look at side or underneath car. Strength to lift hood or trunk. Bend while performing audits. Reach inside or underneath vehicle.  
  • Near vision abilities required to find dings and scratches, paint work, hail damage, frame/unibody, other exterior damage and Interior damage.  Able to identify exterior or interior colors.
  • Ability to deal with different lighting (i.e. exterior and interior lighting, natural and artificial light)
  • Requires physical ability and mental acuity to execute the duties of the position successfully within required timeframes to meet business requirements.
