The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is currently seeking a full time Ophthalmic Technician 1 to work at UHealth Plantation.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Technician 1 performs appropriate clinical testing and understands the theory, principles and practice of eye care. The incumbent completes documentation in the EMR system, in compliance with department standards.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares exam rooms for daily clinical activities.

  • Monitors and maintains the appropriate levels of minor equipment, dry goods, and pharmaceuticals in clinic.

  • Responsible for detailed documentation in the EMR system.

  • Tests patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.

  • Examines eye for abnormalities.

  • Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.

  • Measures intraocular pressure of eyes.

  • Tests patient's field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and charts test results on graph paper.

  • Measures axial length of eye using ultrasound equipment.

  • Completes intravitreal injection (IVI) preparation for patients.

  • Facilitates motility exams.

  • Performs other related tests and measurements.

  • Administers placement of hard and soft contact lenses.

  • Performs technical workups and special testing.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license

  • BLS required

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
