Patent Paralegal

JBT Marel is looking for a Patent Paralegal to join our team in Boxmeer, the Netherlands.
 

The Patent Paralegal works closely with Attorneys, Patent Information Specialists and division management to ensure correct management of the JBT Marel IP portfolio. The ability to effectively communicate with attorneys and division management is key for this position. A patent paralegal has a strong understanding of the global legal patent process. In addition, a patent paralegal needs to be able to use various software systems to manage the IP portfolio and provide updates on the status of cases.
 

The ability to organize is critical for a patent paralegal. This skill is critical in order to keep track of Official deadlines, manage the department workload, legal documentation and other important information.
 

Main responsibilities

The patent paralegal works closely in a team with the in-house IP team (patent/ trademark attorneys, patent search specialists and other patent paralegals) and the division management.

Towards the outside world the patent paralegal will collaborate with external national and international patent/trademark attorneys, their patent/ trademark paralegals, national patent offices, European Patent Office (EPO) and World International Patent Organization (WIPO). The main responsibility of the patent paralegal is the administration of JBT Marel´s worldwide (IP) matters.

Furthermore, the patent paralegal assists in defining the roadmap of the JBT Marel IP department.
 

These tasks include:
 

Management of patent and trademark software system

• Processing and docketing incoming correspondence from IP agents and IP Offices,
• Monitoring critical deadlines,
• Organizing annuity payments of JBT Marel patent portfolio,
• Working according to industry best practices relating to JBT Marel patent applications,
• Entering and checking acquired Patent Portfolio data into JBT Marel patent software system.
   

Filings and administrative (formalities) tasks

• Filing of patent applications (NL, EP, PCT applications, PCT national phase applications, EP  Validations),
• Fulfilling worldwide legal requirements for patents and trademarks (power of Attorneys, deeds of assignment, legal certificates),
• Organizing and handling JBT Marel internal patent meetings (PWG, IPSC).

Organisation support function

• Support function to internal patent attorney,
• Support creating patent portfolio screening material for JBT Marel divisions.

Skills and abilities

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills,
• Possess critical attention to detail,
• Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in dealing with highly confidential information,
• Strong organizational and computer skills.

Education, Knowledge, and Experience

• Excellent language skills in English, other languages are an advantage,
• Paralegal certificate is an advantage,
• Experience with and comfort working in a multi-cultural, multi-discipline organization is an advantage.
