About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to lead a brand-new NuvemRx pharmacy embedded within a community health center in Galena, IL, a charming, historic town in the heart of northwest Illinois. You won’t be stepping into a pre-built routine; you’ll be building something meaningful from the ground up.
As Pharmacist-in-Charge and Pharmacy Manager, you will serve as the clinical and operational leader of this site, partnering directly with health center providers, managing day-to-day pharmacy operations, and serving as a trusted member of the patient care team. You’ll have the autonomy to shape the patient experience and grow the pharmacy’s impact within the community. This role reports to NuvemRx Pharmacy leadership and works in close partnership with our health center client and its clinical staff.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM (closed for lunch 12:30–1:00 PM). No nights. No weekends. Closed most federal holidays. On-site parking available.
Life in Galena, IL
Galena isn’t just a place to work, it’s a place to actually live. Nestled in the rolling hills of northwest Illinois along the Galena River, it’s one of the most distinctive and beloved small towns in the Midwest. Here’s what makes it worth the move:
- 🏙 Historic charm unlike anywhere else. 85% of Galena’s buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beautifully preserved 19th-century downtown, home to over 125 shops, restaurants, galleries, and breweries, makes Galena the #2 most visited city in Illinois outside of Chicago.
- 🌿 Outdoor living at your doorstep. From hiking and kayaking the Galena River to skiing and zip-lining at Chestnut Mountain Resort, to exploring Apple River Canyon State Park and the Mississippi Palisades, the area offers year-round outdoor adventure.
- 🍽️ A real dining and arts scene. Galena punches well above its weight- think craft distilleries (Blaum Bros.), local breweries, farm-to-table restaurants, wine bars, live music venues, and a thriving arts community, all within walking distance of a historic Main Street.
- 🏠 Affordable, attainable homeownership. The overall cost of living in Galena is approximately 17% below the national average. The housing market offers genuine value. Whether you’re renting or looking to buy, you’ll find far more for your money here than in most metro areas.
- 🚐 A community that needs you. Access to quality healthcare is a genuine priority in Galena. As this pharmacy’s founding Pharmacist-in-Charge, you’ll be a known and respected pillar of the community, not just another employee.
- 🗺️ Well-connected, not isolated. Galena is a comfortable drive from Dubuque, IA (20 min), Madison, WI (2 hrs), and Chicago (3 hrs); close enough to the city when you want it, far enough to enjoy the peace when you don’t.
