About this role

Postdoctoral Fellow on Pediatric Cancer Metabolism

Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Min Ni at Division of Molecular Oncology and Department of Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to study systems metabolism in development and childhood cancer. We use high-throughput metabolomics, isotope tracing, single-cell and spatial multiomics, and preclinical models to define metabolic programs that regulate mammalian development and determine how these programs are disrupted in metabolic disorders and pediatric cancers.

Our laboratory integrates cutting-edge approaches in metabolomics, genomics and computational biology. We have established in-house LC-MS- and GC-MS-based metabolomics and isotope-tracing platforms and combine these capabilities with single-cell technologies, genetic mouse models, and clinically relevant disease models. Our team brings together scientists with diverse backgrounds and perspectives in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

Potential research directions include:

  • Identifying metabolic vulnerabilities and biomarkers in pediatric cancers and determining how metabolic adaptation influences therapeutic response

  • Defining metabolic deficiencies and therapeutic opportunities in metabolic and neurodevelopmental disorders

  • Developing high-throughput mass spectrometry approaches and computational pipelines to model metabolic perturbations and identify disease-associated metabolic programs

Training and career development:

We are committed to helping each trainee develop scientific independence through individualized mentorship and a highly collaborative research environment. Fellows are encouraged to develop their own research directions and build the skills needed for their next career stage. Joining our lab provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of metabolism, advanced technologies, and clinically relevant disease models while developing both scientific depth and a broad interdisciplinary perspective.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with a strong background in metabolism, biochemistry, molecular biology, development biology, cancer biology, and/or a related field. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence, creativity, intellectual curiosity, and a strong record of scientific productivity. Previous experience in metabolomics, mouse genetics, and/or computational biology is strongly preferred but not required.

Interested candidates should send a CV, a brief cover letter describing their research interests and career goals, and a list of three references to Dr. Min Ni.
