Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Networking Platforms
Location (Hybrid): Sunnyvale, CA

We are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our platform software team responsible for developing the low-level software that powers HPE-Juniper routing platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy working at the hardware-software boundary, building device drivers, programming network processors (NPUs) and ASICs, and enabling next-generation networking systems.
In this role, you will contribute to the development of high-performance networking platforms, working closely with hardware, firmware, and systems engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions for next-generation routing products.
What You'll Do
Design, develop, and maintain embedded platform software and firmware for networking systems.
Develop low-level software, device drivers, and system components for Linux-based networking platforms.
Program and enable Network Processors (NPUs), ASICs, and other platform hardware.
Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, debugging, and sustaining engineering.
Develop functional specifications, software designs, and unit test plans.
Bring up new hardware platforms and support board-level integration and validation.
Troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues using advanced debugging techniques and tools.
Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, firmware, and architecture teams to deliver high-quality networking products.
Contribute to continuous improvements in software quality, performance, and reliability.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
10+ years of professional experience developing embedded software or firmware.
Strong programming skills in C and C++.
Extensive experience developing embedded software in Linux or Unix environments.
Hands-on experience developing software for networking platforms, including routers or switches.
Experience developing device drivers and system-level software.
Experience bringing up new hardware platforms and supporting hardware validation.
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills using software, hardware, and memory analysis tools.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Ethernet interfaces, high-speed PHYs, SERDES, and networking hardware.
Knowledge of hardware board design and board-level architecture.
Experience with PCIe, I2C, FPGA, Ethernet MAC/PHY, and other high-speed interfaces.
Experience with chassis management, interface management, and platform management software.
Familiarity with virtualization technologies.
Experience programming NPUs, ASICs, or other networking silicon.
Knowledge of large-scale networking systems and carrier-grade platforms.
