Principal, Solutions Architecture
About your role
You will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software applications. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that align with our business goals and client needs
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership At Scale:
You’ll set and evolve engineering standards (code quality, architecture patterns, CI/CD practices, security posture) across the Issuer Solutions portfolio
Conduct solution architecture reviews, code reviews, and design consultations that raise the quality bar for teams building in Java/Spring, .NET, Angular, Python, and related technologies
Define reusable patterns, reference implementations, and decision frameworks that teams can adopt independently.
Bridge the gap between corporate platform teams (AI CoE, Cloud Engineering, Security) and delivery teams by translating enterprise mandates into actionable delivery.
AI Adoption and Innovation
Champion the adoption and integration of AI-assisted engineering workflows demonstrating measurable impact on quality and throughput.
Experience integrating LLMs into enterprise applications (chatbots, copilots, knowledge database)
Evaluate, pilot, and operationalize AI developer tools across the organization, coaching teams to integrate them into their daily workflows.
Deliver technical training, workshops, and enablement sessions on AI adoption and emerging AI-assisted practices.
Defining governance for AI-generated code
Experience with data pipelines for AI (data ingestion, feature engineering, embeddings)
Engineering Excellence & Quality
Remain hands-on: prototype solutions, build internal tools, contribute to critical-path code when the situation demands it.
Drive measurable improvements in code quality, defect escape rate, and delivery lead time through tooling, process improvement, and coaching.
Deeply understand Client and customer journey to Identify systemic quality issues across the portfolio and propose durable, root-cause solutions
Continuous improvement mindset & understanding of Enterprise applications at scale
Mentoring & Knowledge Transfer
Mentor senior engineers toward deeper architectural thinking, production ownership, AI fluency, and cross-team influence.
Build communities of practice and engineering alignment forums that sustain momentum beyond individual sessions.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 5 years operating at a staff, principal, or architect level of influence across multiple teams.
8+ years of experience in Java, Spring Boot, or equivalent enterprise frameworks (microservices, REST APIs, JPA/Hibernate, messaging).
Demonstrated experience adopting and championing AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering outcomes at scale.
Strong understanding of LLM-based architectures, prompt engineering, RAG patterns, and AI governance with hands-on experience integrating AI into enterprise-scale applications.
4+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (GitLab CI, Jenkins, automated testing strategies).
4+ years of experience with cloud-native and containerized environments (OpenShift/Kubernetes, Docker, AWS/Azure/GCP).
4+ years of experience with modern databases (SQL, No-SQL).
Proven track record of influencing engineering quality across multiple teams without direct reporting authority.
Understanding of Fintech/Payments (optional) or similar domains – ability to see from a customer/client’s perspective and design experience
Solid grasp of application security principles: OAuth2/JWT, TLS, secrets management, vulnerability remediation workflows.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to produce clear technical documents, present to senior leadership, and mentor across levels.
How you’ll work
This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
Travel
Approximately 10% travel off-site or to other office locations is expected
