Job Description
This posting is for a process engineer / expert in image processing and vision systems. Responsible for optimizing and troubleshooting automated image processing processes, focusing on quality control while reducing cycle times and improving manufacturing yields.
- Process owner and technical expert for existing image processing and vision systems (i.e. Cognex, Halcon, NeuroCheck, Keyence) within the plant and as a member of the Bosch Center of Competency and the International Production Network
- Specifying, validating, debugging and improving machine vision systems, sensors, cameras and lighting setups for automated assembly defect inspection
- Utilize data driven methods to resolve complex production issues, resolve bottlenecks, reduce false reject rates and maximize overall equipment effectiveness
- Lead development and implementation of new processes, new technologies, equipment upgrades and projects to reduce cycle time and improve manufacturing yields
- Define, document and manage critical process parameters and vision system programs
- Collaborate with internal and external partners (process development, quality, suppliers, production, logistics, quality) for process and equipment optimizations
- Communication and participation with lead plants and expert teams on latest technologies and process improvements
- Project management and ability to lead teams
- Mentor and train associates in all facets of vision system processes
Qualifications
The qualified applicant must:
- Have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (or similar field)
- Be a self-starter and innately curious, with the ability and willingness to dive into and lead development of technical processes
- Have minimum three years' experience in automated, industrial manufacturing
- Have experience with image processing, vision systems and creating vision system programs
- Be comfortable with cross functional activities and international teams
- Be structured and systematic in his / her / their work approach, willing to adapt to dynamic changes and multi-tasking
- Be willing and able to travel internationally
- Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
Strong augmentation of the candidate profile would include experience with:
- Vision systems, lighting, cameras and sensors
- Equipment maintenance and management (PM, TPM)
- PLC programming, industrial control technologies
- Problem solving methodology and root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Shainin or Six Sigma)
- Quality management systems
- Strong documentation skills
- German or English language background
- Machine vision principles including optics, image acquisition, camera calibration, lighting techniques, OCR/OCV, pattern matching, and image processing algorithms
- Selecting and configuring industrial cameras, lenses, filters, lighting systems, and image acquisition hardware
- 3D vision technologies, laser profiling, structured light systems, or robotic guidance applications is preferred
- Integrating vision systems with industrial robots for inspection, positioning, or guidance applications
- Industrial networks, sensors, I/O systems, and machine controls architecture
- SPC methodologies and interpreting Cp/Cpk studies to establish and maintain process capability
- Conducting Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R studies and process validation activities
- Experience utilizing data analysis tools such as Python, SQL Minitab, JMP, Power BI or equivalent to identify process trends and optimize vision system performance
- Software development or scripting languages (Python, C#, C++, VB.NET) is desirable
