About the Team:
The SCMP Business desk covers a wide range of business themes across Asia, focusing on Mainland China and Hong Kong: banking and finance, the business of climate change, markets, the metaverse, industries, real estate, technology. The team has reporters in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong
Purpose of the Position:
- Oversee accuracy and improvement of copy through editing, rewriting and fact checking.
- Add value to copy through additional media and SEO analytics.
- Lead team and projects and cross functional collaboration.
In this role, you will:
- Oversee accuracy of copy. Ensure copy is error-free, check facts, and be mindful of potential legal concerns.
- Manage copy improvements through careful editing, rewriting and grammar checking.
- Add value to copy through additional media and eye-catching visual elements.
- Distill large volume of gathered story materials into good stories.
- Ensure output deadlines are met. Capable of turning around raw copy fast when needed.
- Manage assignment scheduling, maintaining a steady flow of pages to avoid creating bottlenecks.
- Create and source engaging, reliable and shareable content.
- Collaborate closely with writers, graphic designers and other members of staff.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Degree or above in Journalism, Communication, Language or related disciplines.
- At least 8 years relevant experience in real-time online news operation, wire service, newspaper, or newspaper production.
- Management experience desirable.
- Excellent news judgment and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Good understanding of Hong Kong, the region, and international.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge in chosen specialist area.
- Must be meticulous with facts, able to work under tight deadline pressures.
- Top notch English writing style. Imaginative flair for engaging copy and generating ideas.
- Ability to craft SEO heads and social media headlines that will boost traffic.
- Self-starter with initiative and ability to anticipate problems and prioritize tasks.
- Page layout experience and knowledge of online production systems desirable.
Work location will be at Hong Kong office.
