Job Description

Purpose

The Production Manager will monitor and coordinate the effective and efficient utilization of employees through proactive, high participation work team involvement. The position directs all day to day activities of the plant consistent with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Plant Manager.
  • Directs all production activities through the Production Supervisors, as a member of the Plant Manager’s staff, coordinates interdepartmental activities with other department heads.
  •  Manage under plant expense budget and the method of operation to remain within the budget and assures cost control and cost improvement projects.
  •  Supervises Production Supervisors.
  •  Approves departmental operating procedures.
  • Ensures the implementation of the Company’s Quality Management System.
  •  Monitors and controls overtime level.
  •  Monitors and controls labor and material variances.
  •  Monitors and controls regrind levels.
  •  Maintains employee welfare, follows through with subordinate training and discipline.
  •  Maintains job descriptions and procedures in order to insure proper labor utilization.
  •  Provides leadership in maintaining safety, quality and efficiency throughout the department.
  • ��Standard supervisory and administrative responsibilities of the department Manager.
  •  Administers and enforces the Company’s safety program.
  •  Determine proper utilization of workforce based on production demands.
  •  Recommendation for more efficient methods of operation.
  •  Conducts daily production meetings and communicates with all departments to direct support group activities.
  •  Consults with the Engineering department on mold revisions, improvement projects, new products and CAPEX projects.
  •  Prepares Production department’s budgets.
  •  Monitors production and labor efficiencies to ensure that Company standards are met and maintains proper production practices.
  •  Adherence to quality standards established by the Company to maintain customer satisfaction.
  •  Optimizes budget expenses to minimize the cost of operation consistent with productivity.
  •  Maintains an efficient workforce through communication and training of personnel.
  •  Trains and develops production personnel.

Qualifications

  •  Must have basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and decimals. The ability to understand statistical math.
  •  Able to read, write, and speak to all levels of employees.
  •  Must be able to compose and write policies, programs, procedures, letters and reports used within the Company and send to customers.
  •  Good comprehension skills at a normal business level.
  •  Must be capable of retaining detailed instructions and information.
  •  Must be able to analyze, interpret and react to changes and challenges in our operation.
  •  Must be able to organize and plan daily activities, training and meetings as necessary.
  •  Must be willing and able to handle independent action. Must have the ability to give direction in an assertive manner as necessary.
  •  Must be able to use office equipment necessary to carry out the job.
  •  Ability to gather information quickly, communicate to others and react in a timely manner.
  •  Able to respond in emergency situations and be able to direct all personnel in accordance to the Company’s Plant Emergency Organization Team procedure (PEOT), when necessary.
  •  Must have above average planning skills, interactive skills, assertiveness and ability to administer policies, procedures and discipline as needed.
  •  Working independently or as a team with the other department heads.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Physical Demands

  •  Must be able to work nine (9) hours per day, five (5) days per week. Overtime may be necessary.
  •  Noise level is 90dB.
  •  Polyethylene, polystyrene, PET, polypropylene and purging compound materials are both processed and ground, which provides some fumes and dust.
  •  Indoor and outdoor work is required.
  •  Must be able to wear protective clothing such as a hairnet, rubber-soled shoes, earplugs and a beard guard (if applicable).
  •  Must be able to lift 10 lbs. occasionally during the day.
  •  Occasional standing to demonstrate, instruct and conduct meetings. Must be accessible to all areas of the production floor and facility.
  •  Must be able to detect and sense bottle defects such as texture, bottle temperature, and color. Able to distinguish shades in color, however, some degree of color blindness may be accommodated.
  •  Single arm movement for writing, reading, operation of CRT, calculator and copy machine.
