About Mantra4Change
Mantra4Change is a non-profit organisation working with governments to transform public education systems in India — so that millions of children can learn better, grow stronger, and thrive. We partner closely with state education departments to design and implement reforms at scale, strengthening leadership, governance, and classroom practice across public schools. Our work is grounded in the belief that lasting change happens when governments lead their own transformation.
Through long-term collaboration with institutions such as SCERTs and DIETs, Mantra4Change focuses on developing school leaders and system leaders, building collaborative school cultures, and engaging communities as partners in learning. By combining strong on-ground implementation with continuous learning, we help systems identify what works, scale it responsibly, and sustain improvement over time.
Our mission is to enable leaders at every level of the system to drive continuous improvement, creating a virtuous cycle in which strong leadership, collective ownership, and systemic reform deliver better learning and more equitable outcomes for every child.
About the Gaya Block Transformation Program (BTP)
We have been working closely with the education department of Bihar since 2021 to strengthen education leadership at various levels through collective action, leveraging technology to drive school improvement. Alongside our state-wide Project-Based Learning (PBL) work in the middle grades, we run a deeper district intervention in Gaya that provides governance and academic support to key stakeholders at the district, block, and complex levels.
Mantra4Change is now launching the Block Transformation Programme (BTP), a five-year initiative to build a replicable model of quality education across three aspirational blocks in Gaya, covering close to 200 government middle schools. The programme deepens Project-Based Learning in Grades 6 to 8 in maths, science, and social subjects, and strengthens the whole block ecosystem, teachers, block and district officials, and parents, so that children in government schools learn better and develop both academic and holistic outcomes.
The programme is built on a set of interdependent pillars: relevant, experience-based learning resources; effective parent and community engagement; clear KPIs for block, DIET, and district officials; teacher capacity building centred on classroom action; recognition as a design element; instructional support by education leaders; and strong review systems where what gets measured gets done.
About the Role
The Program Lead - BTP is a block-level, field-facing role that drives the on-ground implementation of Project-Based Learning across a cluster of about 20 to 25 government middle schools within the Gaya blocks, as part of a programme covering 200 schools. Working with existing government mentors, Complex Coordinators, and Block Technical Teams, the Program Lead runs regular classroom observation and coaching (not inspection), supports teachers to run Gold Standard PBL, and strengthens the training, review, recognition, and parent-engagement routines that make quality learning stick. The role is the direct instructional support the model treats as non-negotiable.
This role demands strong classroom and academic sense, the ability to coach teachers and Head Teachers constructively using a structured observation tool, and comfort working closely with CRCCs, BEOs, and DIET Gaya. It offers the opportunity to build a replicable model of quality education from the ground up. This is a long-term role suited to someone who wants to commit to the block for the duration of the programme.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Programme Design and Delivery
- Support teachers in facilitating 8 to 10 projects a year using the concept-anchored Science and Mathematics handbooks mapped to NCERT competencies and ensure that each school actively uses its annual PBL kit and STEM library.
- Design and deliver teacher, HM, and CRCC training modules based on classroom needs and data insights for effective implementation of the PBL programme.
- Support the instructional design of PBL-based training content, including creating engaging, needs-based, and relevant training modules for teachers, HMs, and other stakeholders.
2. School Visits, Classroom Observation, and Feedback
- Visit the 20 to 25 mapped government middle schools monthly and conduct classroom observations. Provide structured, constructive feedback to teachers on classroom practice and Project-Based Learning implementation and follow up on agreed actions.
- Coach and mentor teachers to strengthen curriculum and pedagogical practices through classroom observations, feedback, and professional development.
- Leverage student assessment dashboards and data systems to monitor learning outcomes, identify trends, and guide instructional interventions and teacher support.
- Use the Grade 6-8 Classroom Observation Tool, with focus on the Check for Understanding domain, and work alongside government mentors, Complex Coordinators, and Block Technical Teams (coaching, not inspecting).
3. Training and Capacity Building with DIET/ Master Trainers
- Co-deliver differentiated training for teachers, Head Teachers, and CRCCs at DIET Gaya, with need-based refreshers through block technical teams.
- Build every session around a single question: what will the teacher do differently in the classroom the next day.
4. Supporting Education Leaders on KPIs and Block Review
- Support the DPO, DIET, and Block Education Officers to own and drive clear academic and administrative KPIs (key performance Indicators), so PBL is led as a government mandate rather than an external ask.
- Support BEOs in planning and conducting BEO-HM (Headmaster) review meetings, and help keep them academic, data-informed, and action-oriented.
5. Monthly Learning Circles
- Support CRCCs and Head Teachers to run monthly peer learning circles at the complex level where teachers solve real classroom problems together.
- Build the capability of CRCCs to facilitate these Learning Circles independently over time.
6. Micro-Improvement Projects, Reporting, and Dashboard
- Encourage and support teachers to submit Micro-Improvement Projects on DIKSHA.
- Create and maintain reports and a dashboard of the schools mapped, tracking visits, classroom observations, and progress, so that BEOs, the DPO, and district reviewers decide using real numbers.
7. Parent-Teacher Meetings as Learning Showcases
- Support Head Teachers to run Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) that showcase student work and build community confidence, replacing passive reporting.
8. Recognition through PBL Melas
