About the role


The Purchasing Lead is responsible for the timely and accurate execution of operational purchasing activities, ensuring purchase requisitions are converted to purchase orders within agreed SLAs and in compliance with AGL’s Procurement policies and procedures.

This is a hands-on role that also provides day-to-day guidance and support to a team of purchasing officers. The Purchasing Lead is the key contact for the business and is responsible for advising and influencing business stakeholders on how to operationalise their purchasing requirements.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Purchasing the role supports continuous improvement initiatives and contributes to the delivery of purchasing KPIs.

Key Accountabilities
 

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to a team of Purchasing Officers, ensuring consistent delivery of purchasing services

  • Action and oversee the timely conversion of Purchase Requisitions to Purchase Orders in line with agreed SLAs

  • Review Purchase Requisitions for completeness and accuracy, ensuring compliance with AGL’s procurement policies

  • Provide advice to stakeholders on how to operationalise their purchasing requirements

  • Influencing stakeholders to use preferred buying channels

  • Maintain Purchase Orders through regular monitoring, updates, and closure to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting

  • Identify purchasing activities that may benefit from formal contracts and escalate to the relevant Sourcing Teams to support improved commercial outcomes

  • Promote a collaborative and accountable team culture, contributing to shared goals and continuous improvement

  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Senior Manager Purchasing to provide updates on current activities, planned work, and emerging issues

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of initiatives that improve the purchasing service offering to internal stakeholders

  • Training business stakeholders in best practice business processes

What You’ll Bring

  • Requires an understanding of a procurement environment, including policies and processes

  • Possess a sound working knowledge of Microsoft computer software systems including Outlook and Office applications such as Excel and Word

  • Experience using SAP (S/4HANA), Fieldglass and Ariba
    Produce clear and concise written documentation

  • Clearly convey information and inpart process knowledge

  • Have the ability to extract, provide and report timely and accurate data from business systems
