About The Job

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Regional Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific to lead the legal agenda across the region, excluding China and India.

As the senior legal advisor for the region, you will partner closely with regional and country management to enable business growth, identify opportunities and manage legal, commercial and ethical risks. You will also connect the regional business with Alfa Laval’s global Legal and Compliance network.

This is an individual-contributor role with broad regional responsibility. Success requires someone who takes ownership, anticipates emerging needs and proactively engages the business with timely, practical legal guidance.
 

The position is based in Singapore or Malaysia and reports to Managing Director, SEA, with a functional connection to Alfa Laval Group Legal and Compliance.

Job Description

  • Serve as the overall legal lead for Asia Pacific, while directly handling commercial and operational legal matters across South East Asia.

  • Active member of South East Asia Management Team.

  • Translate business priorities into a clear regional legal agenda and drive its implementation.

  • Provide practical legal advice and sound commercial, legal and ethical risk assessments.

  • Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including customer, supplier, distributor, service, project and partnership agreements.

  • Advise and guide management on corporate governance and compliance matters, primarily anti-bribery and anti-corruption, export control and sanctions,

  • Implement and continuously improve legal policies, processes, contract templates and supporting tools across the region.

  • Build legal and compliance capability through practical training, communication and knowledge sharing.

  • Manage disputes, claims, investigations and litigation, coordinating external counsel as required.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and translate them into relevant business actions.

  • Manage external legal resources effectively, including scope, quality and cost.

What You Know

You are a confident and pragmatic legal professional who combines strong legal judgement with commercial understanding. You build trust with senior stakeholders while maintaining the independence to question, challenge and escalate when necessary. You are comfortable operating independently across multiple countries, cultures and legal systems without relying on a local legal team.

You bring:

  • A recognized law degree and admission or qualification to practise law in a relevant jurisdiction..

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience gained in a reputable commercial law firm and/or an in-house legal function within a multinational company.

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to balance commercial opportunities with appropriate legal and ethical risk management.

  • The confidence and credibility to advise and constructively challenge senior management.
