Retail Store Manager

Johannesburg, South AfricaOn-siteFull-timeMid · 2-3 yearsH1B likely

About this role

Opening a new store is exciting.

Building one that's constantly growing is even better.

We're looking for a Retail Store Manager who wants more than just keeping the lights on. We're after someone who's commercially minded, loves being on the floor, and is always looking for ways to improve the customer experience, grow sales and get more out of the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be leading the team, driving performance, keeping operations running smoothly and constantly looking for opportunities to make the store even better.

If you're energised by ownership, thrive on hitting targets and love turning ideas into action, we'd love to hear from you.

About MyRunway

MyRunway is one of South Africa's leading e-commerce retailers, and we're bringing that same fast-moving, customer-first mindset into retail.

We move quickly, challenge the status quo and believe the best ideas can come from anywhere. We're looking for someone who's excited by the opportunity to help build something special from the ground up.

What a typical day might look like

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading the day-to-day running of the store.

  • Driving sales performance and achieving store KPIs.

  • Coaching, motivating and developing your team to perform at their best.

  • Creating an outstanding customer experience that keeps people coming back.

  • Looking for new opportunities to increase sales, improve processes and elevate the in-store experience.

  • Monitoring store performance and using data to make commercial decisions.

  • Managing stock, inventory and merchandising standards.

  • Executing in-store promotions and campaigns.

  • Managing store administration, cash control and banking procedures.

  • Planning team schedules and ensuring the store is set up for success every day.

You'll probably enjoy this role if you...

  • You love chasing targets and celebrating wins with your team.

  • You're always thinking about how things could be done better.

  • You enjoy coaching people and helping them grow.

  • You naturally take ownership rather than waiting for someone to tell you what to do.

  • You like balancing commercial thinking with delivering a great customer experience.

  • You thrive in fast-moving environments where every day looks a little different.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with:

  • 2–3 years' experience managing a retail store or team.

  • A proven track record of achieving sales targets and commercial results.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • A commercial mindset with the confidence to make decisions.

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

  • Good Excel and reporting skills.

  • A proactive attitude and a genuine drive to improve things.

  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves and lead from the front.

The Hard Truth: Not For Everyone

Growth Doesn't Happen by Accident: We're not looking for someone to simply maintain the store. We're looking for someone who's always thinking about how to grow sales, improve the customer experience and make the business better.

Leadership Happens on the Floor: This isn't a role where you'll spend your day behind a desk. The best Store Managers are visible, coaching their teams, solving problems and leading by example.

Commercial Thinking Matters: Every decision has an impact on sales, stock and the customer experience. You'll need to be comfortable using data, trusting your instincts and making commercial decisions every day.

Ownership is Expected: If something isn't working, we expect you to own it. We value people who bring solutions, test new ideas and continuously look for better ways of doing things.

Why you'll enjoy working here

You'll have the opportunity to shape a brand-new store, build a high-performing team and make a real impact from day one.

If you're someone who enjoys taking ownership, driving results and building something you're proud of, you'll fit right in.

If this sounds like your kind of challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
