Senior Data Engineer

New York City, United States of AmericaRemoteFull-timeMid · 5+ years₹1.5Cr – ₹1.7Cr/yrH1B likely

About this role

What We Do

Wagmo is a new type of pet health company focused on empowering and inspiring responsible pet parenting through top-tier pet benefits provided by employers. From everyday care to rainy-day emergencies, we offer tech-enabled solutions that are optimized for value and flexibility so that our pet parents always feel confident that they are giving their pets the care they deserve.

What's Important To Us

We solve hard problems all day long but hang out with dogs while we do it. We value authenticity and efficiency and have no time for egos. We prioritize performance over pedigree, compensate fairly, and never take ourselves too seriously. Our values are core to who we are and how we operate. We talk about them all the time. These are not just things posted on a wall. We will interview for them, hold each other accountable to them, and make sure we work with every single person we interact with in a way that's consistent with these values.

About The Role

Wagmo is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to own our pipelines and data warehouse end to end. You'll make our data reliable enough to run the business on and clean enough for the AI tools we use to reason over it.

This is a build-and-own role. As our dedicated data engineer, you'll partner closely with our data lead and senior analyst, turn ambiguous business questions into durable systems, and shape how Wagmo uses AI across its data stack. We want someone who explores new tools quickly but never lets experimentation compromise data integrity.

Our Tech Stack: BigQuery · dbt · Fivetran · Python · GCP · GitHub · Tableau · Slack · Notion · Claude

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain our ETL/ELT pipelines and BigQuery warehouse, and evolve the architecture as we grow.

  • Build dbt models and transformations that are clean, tested, and documented, with strong CI/CD and code review.

  • Structure models and docs so they're a reliable context for AI tools like Claude, not just dashboards.

  • Keep data trustworthy through validation, monitoring, anomaly detection, and clear contracts and lineage.

  • Build semantic layers and self-serve infrastructure so Analytics, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Engineering get clean data in their own tools, without routing every request through the data team.

  • Lead projects from scoping to delivery.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

  • 5+ years in data engineering, ideally at a high-growth SaaS or consumer company, owning production pipelines and warehouses.

  • Deep experience in SQL, and dbt on BigQuery (or similar)

  • Strong Git and CI/CD practices.

  • Practical experience reading, interpreting, and writing in Python

  • GCP and orchestration (e.g. Airflow, Fivetran)

  • Solid data warehousing fundamentals: dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT design, query optimization, data quality.

  • Experience building data models and docs for AI/LLM consumption a plus

  • A bias toward enablement: infrastructure that lets other teams self-serve.

  • The judgment to make calls under ambiguity and the communication skills to lead projects, mentor, and work across teams with little oversight.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Build the data foundation to enable better health for pets and the families who love them, at scale.

  • Own the data stack as our dedicated data engineer, working with a small, high-caliber data team where your impact is apparent.

  • Enjoy the perks of a less traditional industry: a pet-friendly office, good people, and real energy.

  • Revolutionize the pet health industry by building the data infrastructure, and the AI-ready data foundation, that improves the lives of pets and their families at scale

  • Join a rapidly growing, VC-backed startup where ownership, impact, and collaboration drive success
