Role Summary

Firmus is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to lead the month-end close process and ensure the delivery of accurate, timely and insightful financial information across the Group. The role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, driving best-practice financial control processes and supporting the production of high-quality management reporting in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. 

The Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing the end-to-end month-end and year-end close process, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal processing, intercompany accounting, consolidation activities and financial analysis. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, completeness and reliability of financial information while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, systems and controls. 

Operating within a rapidly scaling technology business, the Senior Financial Accountant will partner closely with finance, commercial, technology and operational teams to strengthen financial controls, improve reporting efficiency and enhance financial visibility across the organisation. The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with a proactive approach to process improvement, helping to build a scalable and well-controlled finance function capable of supporting future growth. 

While external reporting and audit support form part of the role, the primary focus is on financial operations, close management, balance sheet governance, management reporting and the delivery of accurate financial outcomes that enable effective decision-making across the business. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close & Financial Accounting 

• Lead the end-to-end month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate, timely and complete financial reporting across the Group. 

• Oversee the preparation and review of journals, accruals, prepayments, intercompany transactions, balance sheet reconciliations and month-end reporting schedules. 

• Manage the group consolidation process, including intercompany eliminations, foreign currency accounting and consolidation adjustments. 

• Ensure the integrity of the general ledger through robust review processes and resolution of accounting issues identified during the close cycle. 

• Drive continuous improvement in close processes, reducing reporting timelines while maintaining accuracy and control. 

Financial Control, CAPEX & Balance Sheet Governance 

• Oversee the accounting and governance of capital expenditure, including project accounting, asset capitalisation, work-in-progress (WIP) management, depreciation and asset disposals. 

• Maintain ownership of balance sheet integrity, ensuring key accounts are appropriately reconciled, reviewed and supported. 

• Review and monitor provisions, accruals, prepayments, leases, fixed assets and other significant balance sheet accounts to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. 

• Support the development and maintenance of financial controls, accounting policies and finance procedures to strengthen the control environment. 

• Assist with audit activities, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor requests. 

Business Partnering, Reporting & Process Improvement 

• Partner with operational, commercial and project teams to ensure accounting outcomes are accurately reflected and supported by appropriate documentation. 

• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, automate manual activities and enhance the quality and efficiency of financial reporting. 

• Support finance transformation initiatives, system enhancements and the implementation of scalable processes to support the company's continued growth. 

• Provide guidance and support to other finance team members on accounting treatments, close procedures and financial controls. 

 

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5–7 years' experience in financial accounting, month-end close, consolidation and financial control roles, preferably within a multi-entity, high-growth or complex corporate environment. 

• CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) with a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements. 

• Demonstrated experience managing key month-end activities including journals, accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets and intercompany accounting. 

• Strong understanding of financial controls, general ledger integrity and balance sheet governance. 

• Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. 

• Experience improving month-end close processes, implementing process efficiencies, and strengthening financial systems and controls. 

• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems in a multi-entity environment. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across finance, operational and commercial teams. 

• Ability to manage competing priorities and consistently deliver high-quality outputs within tight reporting deadlines. 

• High level of integrity, ownership and professionalism, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
