As our new Fire Protection Engineer, you’ll be a vital part of the team who are changing the way we design and deliver major works. Your role will include:
Fire Protection System Design – Develop and deliver active fire protection systems, including automatic sprinkler systems, hydrant and hose reel systems, fire detection and alarm systems, and associated fire protection infrastructure.
Sprinkler System Design – Undertake hydraulic calculations, sprinkler layouts, system design and technical documentation in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, project requirements and applicable guidelines.
Design Coordination – Work closely with the Digital team and other engineering disciplines to coordinate fire protection systems within the project model, identify clashes and resolve design and constructability issues.
Technical Documentation – Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, reports and other technical deliverables in accordance with Aurecon’s design processes and quality requirements.
Project Delivery – Support fire protection design throughout the project lifecycle, including design development, tender documentation, construction support, commissioning and close-out.
Site Inspections & Construction Support – Attend site inspections and construction meetings, review installation against the design intent, and provide technical support to resolve site issues and design queries.
Technical Support & Quality – Apply Aurecon’s design procedures, standards and quality processes to deliver consistent, high-quality fire protection solutions across projects.
Collaboration – Work collaboratively with project managers, design managers, engineers, contractors, clients and other stakeholders to deliver coordinated and practical fire protection solutionsWhat are we looking for from you?

With at least 5 years of experience in a Fire Protection Engineering role, you will bring:
Fire Systems Design Expertise – Proven experience designing and implementing fire protection systems, including sprinklers, alarms, smoke control, and passive fire safety solutions.
Project Delivery – Demonstrated ability to manage fire engineering aspects in complex building projects, from concept design to construction and commissioning.
Collaboration & Communication – Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, liaising with architects, engineers, and clients to integrate fire safety solutions seamlessly.
Innovation & Problem-Solving - Ability to apply performance-based fire engineering approaches, optimizing safety while maintaining design flexibility and efficiency.
You will also need to have:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or Diploma in Fire Protection Services
Approx 5 years or more of experience in fire protection engineering consultancy, contracting, industrial facilities, or related industries
Strong knowledge of National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian fire protection standards and regulations,
Experience designing and reviewing fire protection systems.
Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
A proactive and solution-focused approach.
