ABOUT THE TEAM šŸ¤

Core enables every engineering team at Rocket Money to move fast by keeping our foundational systems reliable and easy to build on. We own and evolve the platforms and services that sit at the center of the product and company operations, including:

  • AuthenticationĀ (registration, login, account access, and user lifecycle workflows)
  • Data privacy and trust systemsĀ (privacy requests, user deletions, and secure handling of sensitive data)
  • AI enablementĀ (shared AI infrastructure and tools that other teams leverage to build great product experiences)
  • Internal toolingĀ (admin tooling, operational systems, and data integrations that keep our operations & engineering teams effective)

We care deeply about correctness, resiliency, and making the ā€œpaved pathā€ the easiest path. If you like building high-leverage systems that others depend on, this team is for you.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:

  • Build and operateĀ Core services and platformsĀ that power foundational systems like authentication, data privacy workflows, AI enablement, and internal tooling.
  • Own projects end-to-end: problem definition, technical design, implementation, rollout, and ongoing reliability.
  • Partner closely with product engineers, data teams, and operations partners to create systems that areĀ safe, scalable, and pleasant to use.
  • ImproveĀ reliability and observabilityĀ across critical workflows by instrumenting services, debugging production issues, and raising engineering standards.
  • Help define and strengthen theĀ platform patternsĀ other teams use (APIs, libraries, service templates, authentication patterns).
  • Write clear design docs and RFCs, participate in code reviews, and contribute to a culture of thoughtful feedback and continuous improvement.

ABOUT YOU šŸ¦„

  • You have 7+ years of professional experience working with some combination of Node.js/TypeScript, React (or similar framework), and Postgres (or similar relational database). Experience with GraphQL is a plus.
  • You're not just interested inĀ whatĀ you're building, but alsoĀ whyĀ you're building it. You want to see the bigger picture of how the software youā€˜re building is benefitting our users.
  • You are highly autonomous. You can take an ambiguous problem, align with stakeholders, and drive it to a reliable production outcome.
  • You are an early adopter of AI-assisted engineering workflows and consider these tools a core part of how you ship. You use tools like Claude Code, Cursor (or similar) to accelerate exploration, implementation, debugging, and iteration while maintaining strong engineering judgment.
  • You’re effective in a large organization, building trust across teams, untangling ownership and dependencies, and maintaining momentum from ambiguity through execution.
  • You understand how observability impacts reliability and enjoy digging into the details to solve performance, data accuracy, and user experience issues.
  • You have a collaborator’s mindset and dig deep to understand nuanced and multi-faceted problems and tenaciously break them down into tractable pieces. You love giving and receiving feedback, and considering new and novel ideas.
