Reports to Head of Compliance, Luxembourg

Aztec is looking for an experienced compliance professional to join its Group Risk and Compliance team and oversee the compliance and anti-financial crime agenda for its Luxembourg regulated and supervised entities. Reporting to, and operating under the oversight of, the Head of Compliance Luxembourg, the role will hold responsibility for senior compliance oversight and, where applicable, may support or perform relevant Luxembourg Compliance Officer and AML/CFT control responsibilities.

The successful candidate will operate as an integral member of a Group-wide team, drawing on common frameworks, specialist capability, technology and shared resources. At the same time, they will bring a strong appreciation of the Luxembourg regulatory, legal and business environment and ensure that Group standards are applied in a way that is locally effective, proportionate and responsive to Luxembourg requirements.

Working with senior leadership team and colleagues across Aztec, the role will provide independent advice and challenge, maintain constructive relationships with the CSSF, AED, FIU Luxembourg and other relevant authorities, and contribute to the continued development of Aztec’s Luxembourg compliance and AML/CFT framework.

Key Accountabilities

  • Operate as part of the Group Risk and Compliance team, contributing to common standards and using Group frameworks, expertise and resources effectively.

  • Provide independent, risk-based advice and challenge to the wider Luxembourg business teams.

  • Maintain clear local accountability and provide concise reporting on regulatory developments, monitoring outcomes, material issues, audit findings and remediation.

  • Manage, coach and support key Luxembourg compliance team members in the day-to-day delivery of compliance activities, under the direction of the Head of Compliance Luxembourg, ensuring clear priorities, timely execution, appropriate escalation and effective coordination across tasks, projects and local initiatives.

  • Provide regular updates to the Head of Compliance Luxembourg on local compliance delivery, including progress against objectives, key achievements, milestones, emerging risks, project status, resourcing matters and required management actions.

  • Represent Luxembourg matters in relevant Group forums and translate Group developments into appropriate local action.

  • Maintain appropriate evidence of governance, challenge, escalation, decisions and reasonable steps taken to discharge role responsibilities in a regulator-defensible manner.

  • Maintain a current understanding of the Luxembourg regulatory, legal and market environment relevant to Aztec’s services, including specialised PFS, fund administration, corporate services, AIF, AML/CFT and anti-financial crime requirements.

  • Assess Luxembourg regulatory developments, keep the business informed of material impacts, oversee proportionate implementation and ensure Group policies are appropriately adapted to local legal, CSSF and AED requirements.

  • Act as a key support in interactions with the CSSF, AED, FIU Luxembourg, law enforcement and other relevant authorities, within the role’s remit and governance arrangements.

  • Oversee regulatory notifications, returns, questionnaires, commitments, inspections, supervisory queries and information requests within the role’s remit.

  • Oversee the effective implementation of the Luxembourg compliance framework, including policies, procedures, manuals, compliance risk assessments and governance standards.

  • Support the Group Compliance Monitoring Programme by applying Group methodology while addressing Luxembourg-specific requirements and local regulatory obligations.

  • Ensure monitoring findings, breaches, incidents, audit observations and control weaknesses are assessed, escalated to the Head of Compliance Luxembourg where appropriate, and remediated promptly.

  • Provide timely advice on regulatory requirements, new business, client structures, material change and governance matters, while promoting effective first-line ownership.

  • Oversee the Luxembourg AML/CFT, sanctions, proliferation financing and wider anti-financial crime framework, supported by Group standards, systems and specialist teams.

  • Maintain oversight of financial crime risk assessments, business-wide AML/CFT risk assessment, due diligence, enhanced due diligence, high-risk relationships, monitoring, screening and periodic reviews.

  • Act as a principal supporting point for internal suspicious activity reports and support decisions on whether external reporting to FIU Luxembourg is required, in line with applicable governance and confidentiality requirements.

  • Support the Head of Compliance Luxembourg in ensuring material compliance and anti-financial crime matters are reported timely and clearly to the relevant Luxembourg Boards and governance bodies and provide informed challenge on higher-risk business.

What You Will Bring

  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience of 8 years in similar role; a recognised compliance, legal, risk, AML/CFT or accountancy qualification would be advantageous.

  • Strong experience in compliance and anti-financial crime within the Luxembourg financial services sector, ideally in specialised PFS, fund administration, corporate services, management company, depositary, AIF or alternative investment fund structures.

  • Practical knowledge of the Luxembourg regulatory environment, including CSSF expectations, AED requirements, Luxembourg AML/CFT obligations, sanctions and financial crime requirements, AIFMD and relevant governance expectations.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a Group or matrix structure while retaining clear local ownership, accountability and regulatory defensibility.

  • Experience advising and constructively challenging senior stakeholders and business teams, supported by clear and concise reporting.

  • Experience managing, supporting and developing team members with care and efficiency, fostering growth while ensuring clear priorities, high-quality delivery and effective workload management.

  • Sound judgement, independence and strong stakeholder-management skills, including credibility with regulators, auditors, colleagues and clients.

How You Will Work

The role requires a visible, collaborative and commercially aware approach without compromising the independence of the control function. The successful candidate will use Group capability effectively, provide practical and timely support in Luxembourg, represent local priorities and translate Group developments into effective local action, with appropriate regard to CSSF, AED, FIU Luxembourg and Board expectations.
