Position Summary
We’re looking for a high-performing Senior Medical Biller to manage our in-house revenue cycle, with a primary focus on claims follow-up, denials, appeals, collections, and A/R management. The role also serves as a key point of contact for patient billing questions.
This is a voice-intensive, patient-facing position. You will speak with patients by phone daily, including many older adults, so clear, fluent, and empathetic communication is essential. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing a high-volume medical billing workload.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage payer A/R in Athenahealth, including resolving claim holds, following up on unpaid claims, and appealing denials through resolution.
- Manage prior authorizations and predeterminations.
- Manage patient A/R by answering billing inquiries, explaining EOBs and patient responsibilities, setting up payment plans, and conducting outreach on outstanding balances.
- Post and reconcile payments accurately and prepare accounts for collections or write-offs in accordance with company policy.
- Monitor and analyze denial trends and provide regular A/R performance updates to practice leadership.
- Maintain accurate and timely billing records while ensuring outstanding accounts are followed through to resolution.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of medical billing experience, including hands-on experience with denial management, appeals, collections, and A/R.
- Proven experience reducing payer and patient A/R.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage claims, including experience navigating payer portals.
- Excellent spoken English with clear pronunciation, natural pacing, and strong comprehension. Daily communication with patients is a core responsibility, including conversations with older adults.
- Excellent phone presence with the ability to explain billing and insurance concepts in a clear, simple, and empathetic manner.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a highvolume workload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong technical skills and the ability to quickly learn and navigate EMR/EHR systems and digital communication tools.
- Compassionate and patient-focused, with the ability to balance excellent customer service with effective billing and collection practices.
- Punctual, engaged, and comfortable being on camera and available in a virtual office throughout scheduled working hours.
- Highly accountable, reliable, and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.
- Employees are required to keep their cameras on during working hours, except during lunch and scheduled breaks. Candidates should be comfortable with this virtual office setup.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- CPB, CPC, or CRCR certification.
- Experience with Athenahealth. Candidates with experience using other relevant EMR/EHR systems may also be considered.
