About this role

About Grasshopper

Grasshopper is a quantitative trading technology provider based in Singapore, and is the holding company of Grasshopper Asset Management. Our state-of-the-art technology, built from the ground up in-house, puts us at the forefront of developments in electronic trading. An unbroken record of consistency and profitability is underpinned by firm values of curiosity, empowerment and flexibility.

About Grasshopper Asset Management

Grasshopper Asset Management, a subsidiary of Grasshopper, is a Licensed Fund Management Company (LFMC) regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. With low-latency quantitative strategies, we generate diversified, stable and uncorrelated returns with an unbroken 18 year streak of profitability by maintaining multiple layers of algorithmic and manual risk controls.

Why we're looking:

We are expanding and seeking experienced Senior HFT Traders or Portfolio Managers to join our team and help drive the success of our trading operations Asia. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in high-frequency trading and portfolio management, with a deep understanding of financial markets and the ability to make informed and timely decision

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Metals Trader with an elite track record in precious metals, with a specific focus on global gold arbitrage and physical delivery mechanics.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between traditional physical commodity flows and modern electronic trading. You will design, scale, and execute arbitrage strategies across global venues (e.g., London, COMEX, SGE, and OTC markets), leveraging our firm’s world-class technology stack, capital allocation, and rapid market-access capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Execution & Management: Deploy and manage a profitable global gold arbitrage book, capitalizing on price discrepancies between physical spot, futures, and other markets.
  • Physical Delivery Optimization: Oversaw the end-to-end lifecycle of physical delivery, vaulting, and swap mechanics. Navigate the logistics, financing costs (leases/unallocated accounts), and friction points of moving physical metal to optimize arbitrage yields.
  • Cross-Market Arbitrage: Continuously identify and exploit geographical mispricings (e.g., East vs. West flows, London vs. New York vs. Shanghai) and cross-commodity/spread dynamics.
  • Risk & Liquidity Management: Manage delta, basis, and FX risk inherent in cross-border physical and electronic arbitrage. Cultivate and maintain deep relationships with bullion banks, refiners, and liquidity providers.
  • Infrastructure Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with our internal Quant Researchers and Software Engineers to automate pricing models, streamline execution workflows, and minimize time-to-market for new trading venues.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: 7+ years of institutional trading experience explicitly focused on precious metals, with a verified, profitable track record in gold trading.
  • Physical Markets Expertise: Deep, hands-on understanding of physical delivery protocols, Loco London clearing, vaulting dynamics, and the mechanics of refining/transportation friction.
  • Arbitrage DNA: Proven experience executing complex arbitrage strategies across COMEX, LBMA market makers, and regional exchanges (e.g., Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE), India/GIFT City, or Middle Eastern hubs).
  • Quantitative Mindset: While you do not need to be a quantitative trader, you should have a systematic, data-driven approach to markets.
  • Network: An established network of counterparties including bullion desks, clearing firms, and physical market participants.
  • Languages: Fluent in Mandarin at least at a business-level proficiency
