[What the role is]
Senior Research Executive/Scientist (Clean Energy Research Centre) / School of Engineering
[What you will be working on]
- Contribute to the Center's R&D and innovation agenda in Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and green power technologies, aligning project work with emerging industry needs, national priorities, and Temasek Polytechnic's strategic objectives.
- Plan and execute applied R&D and industry innovation projects involving battery systems, ESS, renewable energy integration, hydrogen technologies, and other sustainable energy solutions, delivering successful outcomes, technology translation, and industry impact. (Senior Scientists may lead individual projects or work streams within larger programmes.)
- Conduct research and development in battery safety, performance, reliability, life cycle management, and external monitoring for lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and emerging battery technologies, with emphasis on system-level engineering solutions and real-world deployment.
- Develop and implement control, monitoring, diagnostics, optimisation, and energy management solutions for battery systems, ESS, hybrid energy platforms, and microgrid applications, supporting the integration of batteries, solar PV, and hydrogen/fuel cells to enhance energy resilience, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
- Apply digital twin, AI, data analytics, and smart energy techniques to battery and energy systems for predictive maintenance, intelligent decision-making, and optimisation of energy assets.
- Design, build, test, and deploy prototypes, demonstrators, and test beds, supporting technology validation, adoption, and industry implementation.
- Contribute to research proposals, grant applications, intellectual property generation, technical publications, and project reports that strengthen the Centre's capabilities and reputation.
- Support and help sustain collaborations with industry partners, government agencies, IHLs, research institutes, and international collaborators to advance applied research and technology transfer.
- · Guide and mentor junior researchers, engineers, and students in applied research and industry projects, contributing to a collaborative, high-performance team culture. (Primarily a Senior Scientist responsibility.)
- · Present technical results at project reviews, conferences, and technical forums, and contribute domain expertise to industry and standards-related activities where appropriate.
- Identify emerging technical opportunities and contribute to the development of new capability areas that support the Center's growth and Singapore's energy transition and decarbonization agenda.
[What we are looking for]
- Qualifications in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation, Power Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Relevant R&D or industry experience commensurate with the level — typically less than 3 years for Scientist and less than 5 years for Senior Scientist.
- Familiarity with integrated energy systems involving batteries, ESS, solar PV, hydrogen/fuel cells, or hybrid power platforms.
- Experience in control, diagnostics, optimisation, or energy management for electrical or energy systems. Exposure to digital twin, AI-enabled methods, or intelligent system applications in battery, ESS, or green energy areas will be an advantage.
- Practical, hands-on experience in hardware and software development, embedded systems, instrumentation, prototyping, system integration, and testing.
- Experience contributing to project proposals, research planning, technical reporting, and R&D project execution. For Senior Scientist, some experience leading project tasks, coordinating collaborators, or mentoring junior staff will be an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Passion for advancing battery, energy storage, and green power technologies with practical industry impact.
