BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION
The role is within Capital Markets Operations, specifically supporting settlements for Fixed Income and equities products. The UK Ops team are responsible for supporting time critical settlement processes in and acting as an SME in local market issues. London work closely with the settlements team in Toronto helping to provide them expertise in local market queries.
JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY
The Settlement Officer is accountable for the timely and accurate handling of trade settlement activities for fixed income and equities across all European markets.
They will act in an SME capacity supporting the wider Operations team in Toronto, to address more complex escalations and respond to any queries or complaints to ensure high level of customer satisfaction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Ensure trades settlements on a timely basis and investigate settlement issues
Pre match transactions on trade date
Monitor and execute stock settlement instructions efficiently and accurately
Point of contact for Front Office and Back Office in relation to settlement questions
Assist with the settlement queries in the UK morning
Follow up with brokers and custodians to clean up any unmatched/ unsettled instructions
Investigate trade fails and liaise with external and internal teams
Participate in project initiatives and UAT for system enhancements
Ensure standard procedures, guidelines and timelines are adhered to and met in order to avoid any gain or losses and ensure customer satisfaction
Monitor error queues in the confirmation and settlement processing system; analyze and correct discrepancies and errors that surface to ensure accuracy of data and timely processing of payments to ensure customer satisfaction
Ensure all procedures are up to date
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Regular contact with internal CIBC employees, teams and departments at the peer level to obtain and provide information and respond to requests
Regular contact with external Financial Institutions and Clients to respond to queries and obtain information as required to complete assigned work
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Previous experience at top tier institutions across fixed Income and equity settlements.
Previous experience of CREST / Euroclear / Clearstream and equity European markets
Experience in Equities, Repo/SBL & OTC margin settlement
Ability to prioritize requirements
Strong Interpersonal Skills
Experience in dealing directly with clients via phone or email
Understanding of CSDR.
