The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Architect to lead the Software Architecture Team for the AvionX Mission Systems Software organization located in Long Beach, CA.

Our engineers create systems to help pilots navigate through complex and nuanced situations to safely achieve their mission. We accomplish this by solving difficult problems in optimal path planning, estimation, and control, as well as autonomous fault protection.

We strive to work from first principles and develop powerful abstractions to maximize capability while minimizing complexity. We're looking for team members who will collaborate with humility and curiosity.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Directs the design, development, test, debugging and maintenance of software that is integrated into embedded devices and systems and meets industry, customer, safety and regulation standards

  • Directs the review, analyses, and translation of customer requirements into the design of software products for embedded devices and systems

  • Consults on code for embedded systems software to run on specific specialized hardware

  • Provides consultation on integration of embedded software with hardware components

  • Oversees analyses, monitoring and improvement of the efficiency and stability of embedded software systems

  • Directs testing and debugging of software for embedded devices and systems

  • Influences current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and changes in regulations relevant to software development and hardware technologies

  • Influences company approach regarding software and hardware integration domains

  • Oversees tracking and evaluation of internal and supplier software team performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standards

  • Provides technical leadership for embedded software project management functions

  • Advises management on a wide range of topics related to the embedded software engineering environment

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Ability to obtain an active U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

  • 10+ years of experience leading software development

  • 10+ years of experience leading or supporting trade studies, business case development, work transfers, and/or statement of work management

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  •  Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in computer engineering or similar engineering discipline

  • Ability to effectively lead, communicate and collaborate with key stake holders across multiple organizations

  • Experience with software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics and constraints

  • Experience with flight management systems and/or civil navigation

  • Experience with certifying software in alignment with DO-178C

  • Experience developing software for motion planning, estimation, and/or control

  • Experience developing software or simulations with MATLAB and/or Simulink

  • Experience developing software or simulations with C++

  • Ability to independently identify and solve problems encountered by the team using both creativity and established engineering principles

  • Experience with domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require real-time software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches

Summary Pay Range for Senior level (Level 6): $249,900-$338,100

Security Clearance:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
