AWS Invoicing is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the Invoicing Entities team in Seattle. This team owns the foundational systems that define, store, resolve, and surface every commercial entity and billing relationship in AWS - ensuring correctness across all partitions, regions, and jurisdictions.
You will manage a team of software engineers building and operating distributed services at massive scale. Your systems are on the critical path for AWS bill runs: CoBRAS maintains the source of truth for consolidated billing families, Entity Resolution Service determines the correct Seller of Record for every transaction, and Transaction Resolution Service models the full context of every financial event in the AWS Billing pipeline.
This role blends technical leadership with people development and operational excellence. You'll set the technical direction, grow engineers' careers, drive down operational burden, and represent your team across a broad stakeholder landscape. You'll also own the end-to-end process for launching new Sellers of Record (SOR) - a capability that directly enables AWS to expand into new countries and jurisdictions.
We value configuration over code, operational excellence over speed of delivery, and ease of integration for our clients - even when it's harder for us to build.
Key job responsibilities
- Hire, develop, and retain a high-performing engineering team; provide coaching, career development, and performance feedback
- Own the technical roadmap for entity management, resolution, and billing relationship services
- Maintain Tier-1 operational excellence: drive high availability, reduce operational burden, and lead incident response
- Deliver the SOR launch process - coordinate cross-pillar readiness, communications, staged rollout, and rollback procedures for new jurisdictions
- Prioritize across competing demands from 60+ client teams and senior stakeholders in Legal, Tax, International Expansion, and Compliance
- Drive architectural decisions that favor configurability, auditability, and reuse over one-off implementations
About the team
The Invoicing Entities team sits within AWS Billing (Invoicing). We own the "who" of every AWS transaction - the entities, their relationships, and the rules that resolve them. Our services are consumed by virtually every billing system in AWS. We're a technically deep team that values operational rigor, customer trust, and configurability. We operate with high ownership and move deliberately because correctness matters - a mis-attributed transaction has legal, tax, and compliance consequences.
