Singapore based
up to $86,000 DOE 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sponsorship Director – Sustainability Events to join Times Higher Education’s rapidly growing events team to drive sales efforts globally with clients in the sustainability sector. The role will focus on building out the partner offering securing new sponsors for THE’s flagship sustainability event: Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC).

The Global Sustainable Development Congress is convened by Times Higher Education and brings together the world's leading thinkers, policymakers and actors from different sectors to drive new alliances and create positive action for a more sustainable future. The GSDC was launched by THE in 2021 and has grown to bring together more than 5,000 delegates across industry, academia, government and third-sector bodies – establishing itself as the leading cross-community sustainability focussed event globally.


Reporting directly to the GSDC Event Director, the candidate will work closely with the events content, marketing, and operations teams to successfully onboard new clients into the event ecosystem. The role will be responsible for driving sales with corporate businesses working within the global sustainability landscape and will have a full global remit to grow our footprint in this new market.


The candidate will benefit from significant support from management and marketing functions across the business but will have a large degree of autonomy in establishing themselves as a sector expert and setting their own strategy to drive best results commercially.


This role will require travel both domestically and internationally to attend events, client meetings and industry conferences. You will be working alongside a dynamic and committed team and will be adept at working effectively both independently and also creatively within a hard-working team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build relationships from the ground up; find, engage and nurture your own client base of corporate companies

  • Drive event sales growth by identifying and winning new business opportunities

  • Manage the end-to-end sales process, from initial prospecting and high-impact proposals to negotiating complex contracts and closing

  • Prepare and present regular sales forecasts, performance reports, and market analyses to senior leadership

  • Partner with the Event Director and Marketing team to develop targeted lead generation campaigns that specifically address the needs of the sustainability market

  • Create innovative solutions that meet your clients’ needs and that keep GSDC and THE at the forefront in the market

  • Maintain an overview of competitor landscape

  • Resolve customer issues by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Attend industry events to maintain relationships with clients and develop new relationships


Experience and Skills Required:

  • Sales background ideally in live or digital events, with experience in the sustainability sector highly desirable

  • Quick to grasp new concepts and understand the value proposition for different groups of prospective clients

  • Confident and independent self-starter who is able to hit the ground running

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with senior leaders from government, education and industry

  • Commercially astute and entrepreneurial outlook

  • Ability to work to agreed deadlines, working well under pressure

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills in order to manage and prioritise workload

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Passionate about the power of education and importance of sustainability to global development

  • MS Office essential – Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Flexibility to travel internationally to THE and industry
