Student Assistant Specialist - Narwhal Fitness Instructor (OCSE)

The Office of Student Engagement oversees community building programs, and seeks a student worker to support programming for commuter students. This position reports to the Associate Director for Recreation & Commuter Engagement. The New School was founded by forward-thinking educators in 1919 to defy the intellectual constraints of a traditional college education. 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Recreation, & Commuter Engagement, the Fitness Instructor will be responsible for leading fitness classes, creating content for social media accounts, and acting as the point-person for inquiries and class sign ups.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as a student fitness instructor during a TNS fitness class. 

• Create content for the Commuter Group’s NarwhalNation and Instagram pages. 

• Reply to student inquiries related to the fitness class in question.

• Lead events in question with a fitness course/lesson plan. 

• Support students in signing up for the class.

• Take class attendance per session.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled New School student

• Demonstrated commitment to community building and teamwork

• Reliable, organized, and communicative

• Past fitness experience

• Ability to lead fitness sessions

• Able to manage a hybrid schedule with majority in-person hours

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience/certification working as a fitness instructor is preferred. 

WORK MODE

• Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-DNI

HOURLY RATE: $19 - $21 / hour
