The LATAM AOI & AXI Subject Matter Expert provides regional technical leadership for automated optical and X-ray inspection processes across multiple manufacturing sites. This role develops, standardizes, and optimizes AOI, AXI, and AVI solutions to improve quality, process capability, throughput, and customer satisfaction.
The SME supports NPI, resolves complex technical issues, and leads continuous-improvement initiatives aligned with global standards. The role also monitors and improves regional KPIs including FPY, test coverage, false-call rates, escapes, capacity, and downtime and develops engineering and production teams through training, coaching, and mentoring.
Serve as the LATAM technical authority for AOI, AXI, AVI, and computer-vision inspection processes.
Develop, standardize, and optimize inspection programs, equipment, and processes across regional sites.
Monitor and improve KPIs, including FPY, false-call rates, test coverage, escapes, capacity, cycle time, and downtime.
Support NPI activities, equipment selection, process validation, and production launches.
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for complex technical and quality issues.
Drive continuous-improvement projects to enhance quality, productivity, throughput, and customer satisfaction.
Ensure compliance with global standards, customer requirements, and industry best practices.
Provide technical support during customer discussions, audits, and escalations.
Train, coach, and mentor engineering, technician, and production teams.
Collaborate with regional sites, global teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
Develop regional roadmaps, technical documentation, and preventive-maintenance strategies.
Share best practices and lessons learned to promote consistent performance across LATAM.
Minimum of 7 years of experience with AOI, AXI, AVI, or automated inspection systems in electronics manufacturing.
Advanced knowledge of SMT processes, computer vision, X-ray inspection, and inspection-program development.
Experience supporting NPI, process validation, equipment qualification, and high-volume manufacturing.
Strong understanding of FPY, false-call rates, test coverage, escapes, capacity, cycle time, and downtime.
Proficiency in root-cause analysis, 8D, PFMEA, SPC, DOE, and continuous-improvement methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and standardize processes across multiple sites.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer-support skills.
Ability to train, coach, and mentor engineering and production teams.
Professional fluency in English and Spanish.
Ability to travel throughout the LATAM region as required.
Lean Six Sigma certification and experience with major AOI/AXI platforms are preferred.
More than 10 years of experience with AOI, AXI, AVI, and computer-vision systems.
Experience leading regional or multi-site technical initiatives.
Expertise with leading AOI and AXI equipment platforms.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
Proficiency in data analytics, programming, automation, and Industry 4.0 solutions.
Experience with automotive, medical, aerospace, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Working knowledge of Portuguese.
Strong experience managing customers, suppliers, and technical escalations.
False-Call Rate (PRT): Reduction in false defects and unnecessary review.
Specific targets should be established annually based on site baselines, customer requirements, and regional objectives.
Defect Escape Rate: Reduction in defects missed by AOI, AXI, or AVI.
Test Coverage: Increased inspection coverage against customer requirements.
Equipment Availability: Improved uptime, utilization, and capacity.
Cycle Time: Reduced inspection and review time.
NPI Performance: On-time program development, validation, and launch readiness.
Corrective Actions: Timely closure and effectiveness of root-cause actions.
Process Standardization: Adoption of regional standards and best practices.
Team Development: Completion and effectiveness of technical training.
Customer Satisfaction: Reduction in technical escalations and complaints.
