Technical Writer
About this role
Build the Path Forward
At Path Robotics, we’re building the future of embodied intelligence. Our AI-driven systems enable robots to adapt, learn, and perform in the real world closing the skilled labor gap and transforming industries. We go beyond traditional methods, combining perception, reasoning, and control to deliver field-ready AI that is risk-aware, reliable, and continuously improving through real-world use.
Big, hard problems are our everyday work, and our team of intelligent, humble, and driven people make the impossible possible together.
The Technical Writer owns the creation, revision, and control of the documentation that runs our production floor — SOPs, standards, work instructions, and process flows. Partnering directly with Build Ops leads, engineers, and safety, this role captures tribal knowledge at the source, turns it into clear, visual, operator-ready documents, and manages the document control system that keeps every released revision accurate, approved, and easy to find. It’s an on-the-floor role for a writer who is equal parts editor, process detective, and librarian — someone who can pull a process out of an expert’s head, standardize it, and keep it current as our systems and processes evolve.
What You’ll Do
- Create, revise, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, standards, process flows, and related manufacturing documentation from draft through release
- Own the document control process: numbering, formatting, revision history, review/approval routing, periodic review cycles, and obsolescence of outdated documents
- Spend time on the production floor observing builds, interviewing operators, technicians, and engineers to capture processes as they’re actually performed
- Translate complex technical processes into clear, concise, visual documents (photos, diagrams, flowcharts) written for the operator, not the engineer
- Build and maintain standard templates, style guides, and formatting conventions so documentation is consistent across teams
- Drive engineering change and process updates into affected documents quickly and accurately, ensuring the floor is never working to a stale revision
- Partner with Build Ops leadership, quality, and safety to prioritize the documentation backlog and close gaps flagged in audits, escapes, or training
- Support onboarding and training by ensuring new hires have accurate, current work instructions and checklists
- Track documentation metrics (coverage, revision aging, review compliance) and report status to stakeholders
Who You Are
- 5+ years of technical writing experience in a manufacturing, industrial, aerospace, automotive, or similarly hands-on environment
- Proven experience authoring SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation — and managing them under a formal document control system
- A skilled interviewer who can extract knowledge from busy subject matter experts and turn it into structured, usable content
- A strong visual communicator: comfortable creating process flows, annotated photos, and diagrams (Visio, Lucidchart, or similar)
- Meticulous about accuracy, version control, and detail — you notice when step 7 contradicts step 4
- Comfortable working on a production floor around robots, welding, cranes, and heavy equipment
- Self-directed: able to manage a documentation backlog, set priorities with stakeholders, and deliver without close supervision
- Familiarity with ISO 9001-style quality systems, lean/continuous improvement concepts, or MES/PLM/QMS documentation tools is a plus
- Experience in robotics, welding, or capital equipment manufacturing is a plus
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Daily free lunch to keep you fueled and connected with the team
- Flexible PTO so you can take the time you need, when you need it
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 6 weeks fully paid parental leave, plus an additional 6–8 weeks for birthing parents (12–14 weeks total)
- 401(k) retirement plan through Empower
- Generous employee referral bonuses—help us grow our team!
