Job Summary
Responsible for the strategic direction of a technology domain, services, or process within a broader strategy of a Business Unit (BU) customer or technology functional area. Promotes and applies Technology processes and solutions to meet the needs and align with the strategies of that BU customer or technology functional area.Responsible for directly managing and developing technology staff, building and sustaining collaborative relationships with operating companies, BUs, and technology teams. Lead the teams to complete projects and/or services and perform all technology work activities via efficient processes and effective use of resources. Responsibilities include decision making, risk assessment, task prioritization/assignment/tracking, project assignment, employee development, performance feedback, motivation, team building, communication, planning, resource allocation, cost control, problem/issue/conflict resolution, customer service, and client relations. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plans; receives guidance and oversight from senior manager.Job Description
The IT Manager – Transmission Engineering Technology is responsible for leading the strategy, delivery, support, and modernization of technology solutions that enable the electric transmission engineering organization. This leader partners closely with Transmission Planning, Protection & Control, Substation Engineering, Line Engineering, and Telecommunications teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable technology capabilities that support the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the transmission system.
The role serves as the primary liaison between business leadership and Information Technology, translating engineering priorities into technology roadmaps while ensuring solutions align with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, regulatory requirements, and operational excellence.
What you’ll do:
Essential Job Functions & Tasks
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the technology strategy supporting Transmission Engineering
Build trusted partnerships with engineering leadership to understand business priorities and emerging needs
Create multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with modernization initiatives
Drive standardization, simplification, and application rationalization
Business Relationship Management
Serve as the primary IT relationship manager for Transmission Engineering organizations
Facilitate technology planning, prioritization, funding, and governance
Translate engineering challenges into actionable technology solutions
Ensure strong alignment between business value and IT investments
Technology Delivery
Lead delivery and support for technologies including:
Engineering design and modeling systems
PLS-CADD and engineering design tools
Document and drawing management solutions
Data analytics and reporting platforms
System integrations and APIs
Portfolio & Project Management
Manage the Transmission Engineering application portfolio
Prioritize initiatives based on business value and risk
Oversee project execution from planning through implementation
Ensure successful adoption and organizational change management
Operational Excellence
Maintain high system availability and application performance
Drive continuous improvement through automation and process optimization
Establish service-level objectives and operational metrics
Lead incident, problem, and lifecycle management activities
Architecture & Innovation
Partner with Enterprise Architecture to define future-state capabilities
Evaluate emerging technologies including AI, digital engineering, cloud platforms, and advanced analytics
Promote reusable platforms and enterprise standards
Improve data accessibility and interoperability across engineering systems
People Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of IT professionals
Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
Manage vendor relationships and external delivery partners
Build succession plans and technical capabilities across the team
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Engineering, Information Systems or related field
8+ years of progressive IT leadership experience
Experience supporting electric utility Transmission Engineering organizations
Strong understanding of transmission planning, engineering, design, and asset management processes
Experience managing enterprise application portfolios
Knowledge of cloud technologies, system integration, and cybersecurity
Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and strategic initiatives
Preferred
Experience with utility technologies such as Maximo, PLS-CADD, or engineering analysis platforms
Experience with AWS, Snowflake, and enterprise integration platforms
Knowledge of NERC CIP, FERC, and utility regulatory requirements
PMP, ITIL, SAFe, or Agile certifications

What We're Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
Work Experience requirement listed below:
In addition to any experience required above, 8 or more years of technology experience; 4-6 years of direct supervision experience preferred.

$136,539.00 - $177,503.00The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
