This is a 10-month Fixed-Term position created to support increased railcar traffic at the Montreal Terminal.
What’s the role
The Terminal Operator – Fixed Term Montreal is part of a 13-person team dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient operations that support Shell’s fuel customers in the local market. Maintaining compliance with Shell policies, regulatory requirements, and the Shell Code of Conduct, while upholding our License to Operate, is essential to the role.
As a key member of the terminal operations team, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day receipt, storage, handling, and distribution of railcar products. The role serves as an important interface with local rail companies and carriers and includes railcar loading and unloading, truck loading rack operations, terminal surveillance, and maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable operations.
The Montreal Terminal receives refined products, including gasoline, distillates, and biofuels, via pipeline, marine, rail, and truck, and distributes products through the same transportation modes.
The facility consists of a Truck/Rail Terminal (Light Oil Terminal - LOT), a satellite tank farm (Montreal-East Terminal - MET), and Wharf 103 (leased from the Port of Montreal). The local team comprises 6 staff employees and 7 hourly employees.
While the terminal operates 24/7 with Terminal Operators working rotating shifts, this role follows a Monday to Friday day-shift schedule. Occasional overtime may be required. The position is represented by Unifor Local 121.
Accountabilities
Maintaining compliance with company procedures and government regulations related to HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) and various agency permits
Physical loading and offloading of railcars
Truck loading ramp attendant
Providing general maintenance and housekeeping in support of terminal assets to ensure a safe, secure, and environmentally sound operation
Executing terminal surveillance to ensure sound process safety.
Ability to solve loading rack and other terminal systems malfunctions.
Accountable for compliance with company and regulatory procedures in the execution of the job such as:
Compliance with the Safety, Environmental and Asset Management (SEAM) Standards
Compliance with the Global Terminal Operations Manual
Compliance with the Distribution Measurement Manual
Standard and local operating procedures
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
High school diploma
Business fluency in French
Must possess a valid Driver's license
Computer skills, Excel, word, email, texting
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Must be a team player
Willing to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation
Physically capable of loading and unloading railcars, including unbolting manways and hose manipulation.
Comfortable working alone with minimal supervision
Willing to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without accommodation
Willing to work overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends based on business requirements
Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures
Beneficial qualifications:
Designation as Pipefitter, Millwright, or Electrician are considered an asset

Quel est le rôle
L'Opérateur de Terminal – Durée fixe Montréal fait partie d'une équipe de 13 personnes dédiée à assurer des opérations sécuritaires, fiables et efficaces qui soutiennent les clients de carburant de Shell sur le marché local. Maintenir la conformité aux politiques de Shell, aux exigences réglementaires et au Code de conduite de Shell, tout en respectant notre licence d'exploitation, est essentiel pour ce rôle.
En tant que membre clé de l'équipe d'exploitation du terminal, l'opérateur en place est responsable de la réception, du stockage, de la manipulation et de la distribution quotidiennes des produits des wagons. Ce rôle sert d'interface importante avec les compagnies ferroviaires locales et les transporteurs, incluant le chargement et le déchargement de wagons, l'exploitation des racks de chargement de camions, la surveillance des terminaux et les activités de maintenance afin d'assurer des opérations sûres et fiables.
Le terminal de Montréal reçoit des produits raffinés, y compris l'essence, les distillats et les biocarburants, par pipeline, marine, voie ferrée et camion, et distribue les produits par les mêmes modes de transport.
L'installation comprend un terminal routier/ferroviaire (Terminal d’huiles légeres - THL), un parc-citernes satellite (Terminal Montréal-Est - TME) et le quai 103 (loué au port de Montréal). L'équipe locale comprend 6 employés et 7 employés horaires.
Bien que le terminal fonctionne 24h/24 et 7j/7 avec des opérateurs de terminus en quarts rotatifs, ce rôle suit un horaire de jour du lundi au vendredi. Des heures supplémentaires occasionnelles peuvent être nécessaires. Le poste est représenté par le syndicat Unifor local 121.
