This role is part of Ciena’s Data Acquisition and Test Engineering Tools team and contributes to the scalable production of next-generation modem technologies. The position enables the development and deployment of software solutions used across global manufacturing environments, supporting product quality, test automation, and operational efficiency. Success in this role helps accelerate the introduction of advanced connectivity solutions into high-volume production. 
 
How you will make an impact: 
• Design software tools, frameworks, and applications for Windows and cloud-based platforms that support data collection and test automation. 
• Deliver software solutions across presentation, application, business logic, and data access layers. 
• Build scalable and documented software utilizing CI/CD pipelines and agile development methodologies. 
• Drive standardization of test software frameworks across production environments. 
• Enable adoption of technologies that enhance or replace existing test solutions. 
• Collaborate with electrical, optical, systems, and research and development teams to define software requirements and specifications. 
 Provide technical guidance and share best practices supporting process and test automation. 
 
The must haves: 
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in object-oriented software development, preferably utilizing C# and .NET. 
• Application of serverless and cloud-based solutions, preferably utilizing Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. 
 Utilization of source control management systems, CI/CD tools, code review practices, Git, Subversion (SVN), Bamboo, and Artifactory. 
• Troubleshooting and debugging within complex software environments. 
• Application of TypeScript, Angular, SCSS, ASP.NET, and REST service design and implementation. 
 Utilization of test-driven development methodologies, software design patterns, data structures, agile development tools, and Jira. 
• Application of data science principles and methodologies.

• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple geographies. 
• Self-motivated and organized approach with willingness to learn. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality results within aggressive timelines. 
• Curiosity to evaluate and apply emerging technologies to solve business challenges. 
• Experience in instrumentation, optics, or telecommunications. 
• Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems. 
 

Pay Range:

The salary range for this role in Ottawa is $76, 700 - $122, 500

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
