What You'll Be Doing

As a Theatre Practitioner, you'll be responsible for supporting patients throughout their perioperative journey and ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-quality theatre service.

You'll:

 Act as a Scrub Practitioner, maintaining sterility and anticipating the surgeon's needs throughout procedures.

Undertake Circulating duties, ensuring the smooth operation of theatre lists and supporting patient safety at every stage.

Prepare and manage specialist instruments, implants, and equipment for complex Orthopaedic and Spinal procedures.

Champion best practice in infection prevention, patient safety, and theatre governance.

Collaborate closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, recovery teams, ward staff, and wider clinical colleagues.

Contribute to service improvement, quality initiatives, and outstanding patient outcomes.

Support and mentor colleagues, students, and new team members.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines clinical expertise with a patient-first approach.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC)

  • Recent theatre experience within a Scrub and/or Circulating role

  • Strong knowledge of perioperative practice and patient safety standards

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic surgical environment

  • Commitment to delivering outstanding patient care

Desirable

  • Experience within Orthopaedic and/or Spinal surgery

  • Surgical First Assistant qualification

  • Knowledge of NatSSIPs, LocSSIPs, NICE and NCEPOD guidance

  • Experience in private healthcare

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration.

  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in operating theatre environments.

  • Experience in both scrub and circulating roles within Orthopaedic and/or Spinal surgery.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, and perioperative care principles

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

  • ILS qualification (or willingness to complete within an agreed timeframe).

  • Commitment to full compliance with mandatory training, policies, and SOPs.

  • Qualified Surgical First Assist (SFA)

  • Experience mentoring or supporting students and new starters.

  • Experience participating in clinical audits or service improvement initiatives

  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)  Qualification
