About this role

We inspire purpose-filled living that brings joy to the modern home. With a team of more than 8,000 associates spanning 130 store and distribution locations across the U.S. and Canada, we achieve together, drive results and innovate to inspire. Drawn together by a shared passion for our customers and a spirit of fun, we deliver high-quality home furnishings that are expertly designed, responsibly sourced and bring beauty and function to people’s homes. From the day we opened our first store in Chicago in 1962 to the digital innovations that engage millions of customers today, our iconic brand is nearly 60 years in the making—and our story is still unfolding.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Trade Compliance Specialist to manage our day-to-day trade compliance operations. In this role, you will be the operational backbone of our trade program—serving as the primary daily contact for our customs brokers and carriers, driving product classification, and ensuring full compliance with Partner Government Agencies (PGAs).

This is a key hands-on position responsible for maintaining high data accuracy, conducting routine operational audits, and supporting global trade activities across import, export, and cross-border operations.

A day in the life as a Trade Compliance Specialist...

  • Serve as the primary daily point of contact for customs brokers and carriers. Address operational inquiries, resolve entry holds, and ensure smooth import clearance.
  • Determine, validate, and maintain accurate Harmonized System (HS/HTS) tariff classifications for all incoming products within our compliance database.
  • Identify, validate, and manage PGA requirements (e.g., FDA, EPA, Lacey, CPSC) to ensure proper regulatory reporting and seamless clearance.
  • Validate Country of Origin (COO) determinations and ensure proper additions and deductions from duty values (assists, royalties, freight, etc.) are accurately declared on import documentation.
  • Perform routine audits on broker entry summaries (e.g., CBP Form 7501), shipping documentation, and internal trade records to ensure regulatory adherence and operational accuracy.
  • Provide operational trade oversight for shipments to Canada, international franchise partners, and cross-border supply chain movements.
  • Assist with trade compliance onboarding and data integration for new company acquisitions and business expansions.

What you'll bring to the table…

  • 3–5 years of direct experience in import/export trade compliance or customs operations.
  • Strong expertise in HTS classification methodologies (GRIs, Explanatory Notes) and daily customs broker interaction.
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and entry procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and managing Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

We'd love to hear from you if you have…

  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified U.S. Import Professional (CUSIP).
  • Familiarity with Canadian import/export regulations.
  • Experience with customs valuation rules and entry summary auditing.
