Senior Accountant — Xero (US Books)
Location: Mohali, Punjab (On-site)
Type: Full-time
Shift: 1:30pm to 10:30pm
About the role
We are building out the accounting function that supports our US operations, and we need someone to own it properly from day one. The books need real attention right now —reconciliations, month-end close, and clean financial statements. This is not a data-entry seat. You will own the close and produce the numbers leadership and our bank actually rely on. You will have autonomy and you will be held to it.
Twelve months in, our books close on a predictable schedule every month. Bank accounts reconcile without a backlog. Depreciation, accruals, and fixed assets are current. A profit and loss statement and balance sheet go out within ten business days of month end, and you can explain what moved and why without anyone having to dig.
What you'll do
● Own accounts receivable and accounts payable end to end — invoice entry, vendor bills, payment runs, and vendor reconciliation across a high volume of subcontractor accounts
● Perform bank and credit card reconciliations in Xero, and keep them current rather than catching up quarterly
● Run the month-end close: accruals, prepaid amortization, depreciation, and adjusting journal entries
● Maintain the fixed asset register for an equipment fleet, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules
● Produce the monthly profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and supporting schedules
● Maintain a clean, consistent chart of accounts and correct miscoded transactions
● Prepare AR and AP aging reports and flag collection and payment issues before they become problems
● Clear an existing reconciliation backlog and bring historical records current
Preferred
● CA qualified, or CA Inter with strong practical experience
● Experience supporting US-based clients or a US parent company
● Experience with invoice factoring — recording advances, reserves, releases, and fee accounting
● Fixed asset and depreciation experience with vehicle or equipment fleets
● Background in construction, transportation, or logistics
● Familiarity with Dext, Hubdoc, or similar document capture tools
Requirements
What we're looking for
● Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience working directly in Xero. This is a firm requirement — QuickBooks, Tally, or other software experience does not substitute.
● Demonstrated ownership of full-cycle bookkeeping through month-end close, not just data entry
● Strong bank reconciliation experience at volume
● Experience preparing profit and loss statements and balance sheets independently
● Comfortable working with accrual-basis accounting
● Working knowledge of US GAAP
● Strong Excel skills
● Clear written English — you will be communicating with US-based colleagues in writing every day
● B.Com, M.Com, CA Inter, or equivalent
