About this role

Our mission at Duolingo is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. It’s a big mission, and even though we've made a lot of headway, we still have work to do — and that’s where you come in!

Our Product Managers (PMs) have ownership over product optimizations and features, from independently run experiments to major product decisions. Backed by strong analytical skills and business acumen, and inspired by access to senior leadership and transparency into how they make product decisions, our PMs develop insights that lead to new product ideas and Duolingo’s next beloved feature.

Join our life-changing mission to develop education for our half a billion (and growing!) learners around the world.

About the role...

Duolingo’s business runs on two numbers: Daily Active Users and revenue. This role owns both. As VP of Product for Growth and Monetization, you'll lead our largest product organization through a team of experienced pillar leads. Your teams shape how learners come back every day and why they choose to pay. You'll run one of the highest-velocity experimentation engines in consumer tech, with a mandate to grow DAUs and revenue sustainably and never at the expense of learners. This role reports to the Chief Product Officer, joins Duolingo's Product Leadership and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and is based in New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA on a hybrid (4+1) schedule.

🧠  You will...

  • Own DAUs and revenue, Duolingo's two hero metrics, and deliver both against forecast.
  • Manage the pillar leads who run Growth and Monetization, an org of roughly 20 PMs and our largest.
  • Coach and develop senior product leaders, and raise the bar for product talent across the company.
  • Partner with Engineering and Design leadership to make clear tradeoffs and ship quickly.
  • Build world-class product operating mechanisms: Clear north star metrics, planning and review rituals, and rigorous A/B testing.
  • Allocate resources across Growth and Monetization, balancing steady optimization with bigger swings.
  • Be the single voice for Growth and Monetization at the executive level: progress, risks, and the plan to hit both numbers.

✅  You have...

  • Executive product leadership in consumer tech, with multi-year measurable impact on DAUs or revenue at scale.
  • High judgment and operational rigor, with a record of hitting forecasts without sacrificing user experience.
  • A track record of leading managers of managers and developing strong product leaders.
  • Experience leading through change: reorgs, new operating models, faster execution.
  • Cross-functional range, aligning Product, Engineering, Design, Data, and Marketing on clear priorities.
  • Deep fluency in growth and monetization for freemium and subscription products, grounded in experimentation.
  • Ability to work from or relocate to New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA on a hybrid (4+1) schedule.

⭐  Exceptional candidates will have...

  • Delivered stellar results growing a leading consumer app, whether in DAUs or revenue.
  • Demonstrated success balancing user growth and revenue expansion without degrading core user experience in a mission-driven product.
  • Experience communicating product strategy and results to executive and board-level audiences.
  • Developed product leaders who've gone on to run product orgs of their own.
  • Familiarity with ads, subscriptions, and in-app purchase ecosystems, including experimentation at scale across these surfaces.
