5th Year Ophthalmology Registrar role at Flinders Medical Centre, SALHN — a structured three-year SA Health training pathway.

About the role: 

This position provides advanced ophthalmology care across inpatient, outpatient and subspecialty settings under consultant supervision. The role involves the assessment and management of complex ophthalmic conditions, supervision of junior medical staff, participation in teaching, research and quality improvement activities, and contribution to departmental leadership and service delivery. Opportunities for supervised surgical experience are provided in accordance with departmental requirements.

“As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Registrar will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities."

Duties for the role will include:

  • Assess, diagnose and manage complex ophthalmic conditions in inpatient, outpatient, emergency and subspecialty settings.
  • Provide safe, effective and evidence-based clinical care under consultant supervision.
  • Participate in supervised ophthalmic surgical procedures as appropriate.
  • Coordinate patient investigations, treatment plans and follow-up care.
  • Supervise and support junior registrars, resident medical officers and interns.
About you:
  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent .
  • To be registerable as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
    (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in ophthalmology commensurate with level of training.
  • Have completed 4 years of the RANZCO accredited training or equivalent
