About this role

Position Title: Interventionist

LOCATION: Remote; able to work in CST and AZ time zones
DEPARTMENT: Great Hearts Nova
REPORTS TO: Dean of Special Education / Head of School
STATUS: Full-time, benefits eligible

Position Summary:

The Interventionist provides targeted academic support to students who need additional assistance to achieve success in core subjects. This role works closely with classroom teachers, SPED staff, and school leadership to identify students needing interventions, deliver small-group or one-on-one instruction, and monitor progress.

The ideal candidate is a flexible and data-driven educator with experience in differentiated instruction, academic interventions, and small-group teaching, who is committed to supporting students’ academic growth and confidence.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Student Support and Intervention

  • Provide targeted small-group or individual instruction to students struggling in reading, math, or other core subjects

  • Implement evidence-based intervention strategies aligned with student needs and curriculum

  • Monitor and track student progress and adjust interventions accordingly

  • Support students in developing study skills, executive functioning, and independent learning strategies

​Collaboration with Classroom Teachers

  • Work closely with classroom teachers to identify students in need of support

  • Align intervention plans with classroom instruction to ensure consistency

  • Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and intervention strategies

Assessment and Data Management

  • Administer and interpret formative and summative assessments to inform instruction

  • Maintain accurate records of interventions, student performance, and progress reports

  • Use data to recommend further supports or enrichment opportunities

Family Communication and Support

  • Communicate with families regarding student progress and intervention plans

  • Provide guidance and strategies for families to support learning at home

Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development focused on intervention strategies

  • Collaborate with SPED staff and school leadership to ensure best practices in academic support

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Valid teaching certification preferred

  • 2+ years of experience providing academic interventions or differentiated instruction for K–12 students

  • Experience in online or blended learning environments preferred
     

Instructional Skills

  • Ability to deliver targeted instruction and adapt strategies to individual student needs

  • Knowledge of reading and math intervention programs and strategies
     

Collaboration and Communication

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and leadership

  • Clear and professional communication skills

ExtraCurricular Activities: 

Teachers/staff are expected to contribute to the broader life of the school community beyond their classroom instructional duties. As part of their professional responsibilities, teachers/staff may be asked to volunteer time to support school-sponsored activities such as student clubs, extracurricular programs, academic competitions, community events, and other enrichment opportunities. Participation in these activities helps foster a vibrant school culture, supports student development, and strengthens relationships within the school community. While specific assignments may vary based on school needs and teacher/staff interests, faculty members and staff are expected to demonstrate a spirit of service and collaboration by contributing time and effort to these initiatives throughout the school year.

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Type of clearance:
Must complete Texas and Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance and background check. Additional states may be required. 

Physical functions:

Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 50 pounds approximately.
