About this role

Job Title: Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist
Banding: Band 6/7
Location: West Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Hourly Rate: £24.00–£31.00 per hour
Working Hours: Full time or Part time

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join a dynamic acute service in West Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 or Band 7 clinician with experience in acute adult settings to provide specialist assessment and intervention for adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality Speech and Language Therapy services within an acute hospital environment. While tracheostomy competency is desirable, applications are also welcomed from clinicians with strong acute experience who are looking to further develop their specialist skills.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
• Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults with communication and swallowing disorders within an acute setting.
• Manage a varied caseload of adult acute patients, including those with complex needs.
• Deliver evidence-based interventions and rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual patient goals.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support safe and effective patient care.
• Assess and manage dysphagia, including tracheostomy patients where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
• Support discharge planning and contribute to patient-centred care pathways.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
• Previous experience working within adult acute Speech and Language Therapy services.
• Experience managing adults with communication and swallowing difficulties.
• Tracheostomy competency is desirable but not essential.
• Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and multidisciplinary working skills.
