Asphalt Laborer Core Skill Areas & Responsibilities:

1. Site Construction & Labor Tasks:

  • Perform a variety of physically demanding tasks on construction sites, including digging, grading, and site cleanup.
  • Assist in patching asphalt, filling potholes, and performing surface repairs using hot and cold mix.
  • Mix, pour, and finish asphalt and concrete to repair ditches and level surfaces.
  • Install pipes, drains, and traffic control devices following project specifications.


2. CDL Driving & Equipment Transport:

  • Operate Class A CDL vehicles to transport materials, tools, and small equipment to and from job sites (as needed).
  • Ensure all transport complies with safety regulations and proper load securement practices.
  • Perform minor service and maintenance checks on equipment and trucks.


3. Safety & Site Compliance:

  • Follow company safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
  • Support traffic control and ensure safe movement around construction zones.
  • Assist with proper setup of job sites and cleanup after work is complete.


Core Competencies:

  • Physical Strength & Endurance – Able to lift 50+ lbs, work on uneven terrain, and perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions.
  • CDL Operation Knowledge – Capable of safely operating and maintaining CDL vehicles and understanding DOT compliance.
  • Construction Skillset – Experience with asphalt, drainage, or general sitework construction tasks.
  • Attention to Detail – Able to follow directions, accurately complete tasks, and maintain safety focus on dynamic job sites.
  • Flexibility & Dependability – Willing to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL preferred and may be required depending on job assignment.
  • Prior experience in construction or roadwork preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic tools, small equipment, and manual labor practices.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction in a team-based environment.


Working Conditions:

  • Regular exposure to outdoor environments, including hot, cold, and wet weather.
  • Requires ability to stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, and perform physical work for extended periods.
  • May be asked to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on project needs.
  • Must be comfortable working around construction equipment, traffic zones, and variable terrain.
